Croquet mallets and balls in the Margaret River region

The short answer: from Dunsborough to Augusta, Margaret River region players can buy an Invictus mallet cut to their handle length, and clubs can buy Invictus X ball sets, online with courier delivery. On firm summer courts the RF Pro rewards accuracy; the Invictus Rise is the forgiving choice for every month.

Croquet in the Margaret River region

The region's croquet is played at either end of the Capes. In the north, Dunsborough Croquet Club is part of the Dunsborough and Districts Country Club on Gifford Road, with two full courts and three codes: association on Tuesday and Friday mornings, ricochet on Thursday mornings, golf croquet singles on Tuesday afternoons and doubles on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. In summer the afternoon sessions start an hour later, at 3pm.

At the southern tip, the Augusta and Districts Tennis and Croquet Club plays golf croquet on two unlit courts on Allnutt Terrace, on Monday and Saturday afternoons from 1pm. Association is no longer played there, and the courts close for July and August.

What the region's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

The Capes have warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters, with most rain falling between May and September. Through the dry season the courts run firm and quick, and the later summer starts avoid the hottest hours. In the wet months the grass softens and slows, and Augusta rests its courts in midwinter. Most of the playing year favours precision over head weight.

Which Invictus mallet suits Margaret River players

RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship we designed in collaboration with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Composite striking faces and brass weights are built into a head of 3D printed aluminium, and the mallet totals close to 2 lb 12 oz; lighter and very precise, it suits golf croquet on a fast court.

Invictus Rise, A$990. The model we sell most. Near three pounds of aluminium in the head plus a slightly larger sweet spot make it a little more forgiving to direct, especially once autumn rain softens the courts. Pair it with the 11 inch head.

Your mallet is made to the handle length you give us, with an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is included, while Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple cost A$130.90 more. Weight is not a choice. Work through the fitting guide and compare mallets first.

Balls for Capes clubs

Invictus X balls hold World Croquet Federation championship approval; each weighs 450 g, and they are produced entirely in Australia, at A$990 per set. Plan on a first-colour and a second-colour set for each court. What WCF approval means explains the standard.

Delivery to the Margaret River region

We build a mallet once it is ordered, and it usually turns up 4 to 8 weeks later, which is an estimate rather than a guarantee. Ball sets go by courier, priced to your door before payment.

Questions Capes players ask

Is there a club in Margaret River itself? The nearest are Dunsborough and Augusta, and Busselton is a short drive away; see our Busselton page.

Can I play with it before committing? Yes. The optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (A$99) covers a month of your normal sessions.

Does winter damp affect it? No. Aluminium will not swell or rot; see product care.
