Croquet in Busselton
Busselton Croquet Club began in 1906 with games on the Esplanade, and in 1907 it ran a handicap pairs event during the five-day Busselton Carnival. Play stopped in both world wars and revived each time. Its 1975 clubhouse was eventually outgrown, and after talks with the tennis club the council set aside part of Churchill Park, where a third court and a new clubhouse opened in 2019. Today the club plays on three lawns at the corner of Brown and Kent Streets.
Golf croquet became the main game around the turn of the century, though association croquet is played too. Morning doubles run from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to noon, all year round, and visiting players from any club are welcome, with a mallet lent if you arrive without one.
What Busselton's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The Capes region has warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. From late spring the lawns dry and quicken; once the winter fronts arrive the grass softens and the game slows. Accuracy pays through the long dry months; a little extra head weight helps in the wet.
Which Invictus mallet suits Busselton players
RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship, which World Champion Robert Fletcher helped us develop. Composite faces and brass weights are set into a 3D printed aluminium head, and the mallet is about 2 lb 12 oz: lighter, very precise, and at home on a fast summer lawn.
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. Its aluminium head of about 3 lb has a slightly larger sweet spot, so it is a little easier to control, especially once winter slows the lawns. We usually recommend the 11 inch head.
Both come cut to your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is the standard colour; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold and Deep Purple cost A$130.90 extra. Weight is not adjustable. The fitting guide shows how to measure; compare mallets sets out the differences.
Balls for Busselton
Invictus X balls have championship approval from the World Croquet Federation, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia, at A$990 a set. A three-lawn club would normally hold three first-colour and three second-colour sets; our club ball guide explains the reasoning.

Questions Busselton players ask
Can I order to a holiday address? Yes. We deliver anywhere in Australia.
Can I play with it before committing? Add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (A$99) and use it in the morning doubles at Brown Street first.
Will the summer sun hurt it? No. The head is aluminium, so it will not dry out or crack; see product care.
