Croquet mallets and balls in Woking
The short answer: Woking players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it delivered in Surrey. On Hook Heath's tournament-standard lawns, experienced members often favour the precise RF Pro; for anyone ready to swap a club mallet for their own, the Invictus Rise is the gentler start.
Croquet in Woking
Woking Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, in Pine Road at Hook Heath, describes its two croquet lawns as among the best in the south of England, and they are of international standard: the club co-hosted the World Championships in 2013 and again in 2023. It stages around seven Croquet England tournaments a year; the 2026 list included an Advanced Open (AC) and a Golf Croquet Open Series event in June and an Autumn Advanced weekend in late August. Golf Croquet sessions run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, Association sessions on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday afternoons, and newcomers take a handicap test after coaching before joining club sessions. A junior section began in 2025 with ten new members. The club lends mallets at first, and its own advice is that after a while you will probably want to buy one that suits you.
What Woking's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Surrey heathland country has light, sandy soils that drain freely, and in a warm, dry summer well-prepared lawns here run very fast and true. That favours a precise, controlled stroke. Spring tournaments in April and an end-of-August weekend after rain can feel quite different, with slower grass that asks for more weight through the ball.
Which Invictus mallet suits Woking players
RF Pro, £975. The flagship of the range, conceived with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its aluminium head is 3D printed, and inside it brass weights sit behind composite striking faces; all up it weighs about 2 lb 12 oz. Lighter and very precise, it is made for quick lawns and serious tournament play.
Invictus Rise, £525. Our best-selling mallet. About 3 lb of aluminium head gives it carry on slower grass, and its sweet spot, slightly larger than on many mallets, makes it a little easier to control. Order it with the 11 inch head we usually recommend.
We build each one to your handle length after you order, with a head of 11 or 12 inches. The base finish is Graphite Black; NRA Blue, Rose Gold, Snow White or Deep Purple come at £89 extra. The fitting guide and compare mallets page will help you settle it.
Balls for Woking clubs
Invictus X is a World Croquet Federation championship-approved ball, 450 g, made entirely in Australia and sold at £479 a set. Two lawns would normally be stocked with one first-colour and one second-colour set apiece. Our explainer on WCF approval sets out what that means.
Delivery to Woking
Mallets are made to order, then sent to the UK; they usually reach Woking 4 to 8 weeks after ordering, which we give as an estimate. Ball sets come with a delivered price we confirm before you pay.
Questions Woking players ask
I have just passed my handicap test. Which mallet? Usually the Rise, for its forgiveness while your game develops.
Can I use it in club sessions before deciding? Yes. The optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee, £75, allows exactly that.
Is there a mallet for our junior members? Both are cut to the player's handle length, so a junior gets a properly sized mallet; weight comes with the model.
