Croquet mallets and balls in Whangarei
The short answer: Whangārei and Northland players can order an Invictus mallet built to their handle length, and clubs can order Invictus X balls, online with courier delivery from Australia. On Northland's warm, fast-growing lawns we would point most players to the Invictus Rise.
Croquet in Whangārei
Whangārei has two clubs. The Whangārei Croquet Club on Third Avenue describes its grounds as the largest park-like grounds in Northland, with parking at the gate and plenty of birdlife, and it runs Have a Go days for newcomers on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with refreshments provided. The club has a long competitive history: in January 1937 the Auckland Star reported sixty entries for its annual tournament, including teams from the northern clubs and from Auckland. The Kensington club on Mill Road is the city's second.
Beyond the city, Northland's other clubs are at Kerikeri's Cherry Park Reserve, Caledonian Park in Waipu, Kaitaia and Doubtless Bay, so a Whangārei tournament can draw players from the whole region.
What Whangārei's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Northland is the warmest part of the country, the "winterless north", with humid summers and mild, wet winters. Grass grows for most of the year and lawns are often lush, and after rain they can be slow and heavy. A mallet with weight in the head moves the ball through thick grass without a big swing, and a forgiving sweet spot helps when the surface is not perfectly true.
Which Invictus mallet suits Whangārei players
Invictus Rise. Our most popular mallet and an obvious match for lush northern lawns. The head is aluminium at roughly 3 lb, and the slightly enlarged sweet spot gives a little more control on an imperfect surface. Most Northland players would choose an 11 inch head.
RF Pro. The flagship that World Champion Robert Fletcher helped us create. Brass weighting and composite faces are built into a head 3D printed from aluminium, for a total of about 2 lb 12 oz. It is the lighter mallet, and very precise, for players chasing finesse.
We make each to the handle length you supply, with an 11 or 12 inch head, finished in standard Graphite Black or, for an additional charge, in Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple. There is no weight option. The fitting guide shows how to measure up.
Balls for Northland clubs
Invictus X balls, 450 g apiece, are made entirely in Australia and carry World Croquet Federation championship approval. Hold roughly one first-colour and one second-colour set for each lawn; ball colours explained sets out the order of play.
Delivery to Whangārei

Questions Whangārei players ask
Is humidity a problem? No. An aluminium head does not swell or split in the damp. Wipe it down after play, as product care suggests.
Could I use it at Third Avenue before deciding? Yes, if you add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee at checkout.
Where do I see the differences and prices? On compare mallets and the product pages.
