The short answer: croquet players in Victoria, Oak Bay, Saanich and around Greater Victoria can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online for delivery to Vancouver Island. If you are moving up from club equipment to a mallet of your own, the forgiving Invictus Rise is where we would start.
Croquet in Victoria BC
Croquet in Greater Victoria lives mostly at lawn bowling clubs that share their greens with the six-wicket game. The Victoria Bowls and Croquet Club, once the Victoria Lawn Bowling Club, sits in Beacon Hill Park, its clubhouse flanked by two greens, and membership covers introductory lessons, the use of club equipment, open draws, leagues and club and interclub tournaments. The Oak Bay Lawn Bowling and Croquet Club plays behind a tall hedge in Carnarvon Park, and in March 2022 it hosted what the local paper called Greater Victoria's first inter-club croquet tournament: sixteen teams, with the final settled 7 to 5. Downtown, the Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling and Croquet Club offers the game as well. Sanctioned competition comes here too; in June 2018 a ten-player tournament was played on three Victoria courts shared with bowlers.
What Victoria's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Victoria has one of the mildest climates in Canada: dry, sunny summers and damp, gray winters with little snow. Greens kept for lawn bowls are short and smooth, so in a dry July they can play very fast, while after weeks of winter rain the same turf turns soft and slow.
Which Invictus mallet suits Victoria players
Invictus Rise, US$695. Our most popular mallet. About 3 lb of aluminum in the head drives the ball through wet winter grass, and a sweet spot slightly larger than normal makes it a little easier to control, which helps anyone leaving club mallets behind. We usually recommend the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, US$1,295. Our flagship, created in partnership with World Champion Robert Fletcher. The 3D printed aluminum head, with brass weights and composite faces, weighs about 2 lb 12 oz, so it is lighter and very precise on quick summer greens.
Whichever you choose, it is made to order to your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is the standard color; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold and Deep Purple are US$119 more. Our fitting guide explains how to measure, and compare mallets shows the two models together.
Balls for Victoria clubs
Invictus X balls are World Croquet Federation championship approved, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; a set of four is US$635. As a rule of thumb, a lawn needs one set in first colors and one in second colors. What WCF approval means explains why the standard matters.
Delivery to Victoria
Mallets are made one at a time and shipped to you in British Columbia, usually 4 to 8 weeks from order; treat that as an estimate. For ball sets, we confirm the delivered price before you pay.
Questions Victoria players ask
Are prices in Canadian dollars? No. We quote every price in US dollars.
Will a damp island winter hurt the mallet? No. Aluminum does not swell or rot; dry the faces after a wet game and see product care.
Is there a way to change my mind? Yes: the free 30-day satisfaction guarantee lets you play real games before deciding to keep it.
