Croquet mallets and balls in Stanthorpe

The short answer: Stanthorpe and Granite Belt players can order an Invictus mallet made to their handle length and delivered up the range, and local croquet can buy Invictus X balls by the set. With cold, slow winter lawns to deal with, we would point most Stanthorpe players to the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in Stanthorpe

Stanthorpe's croquet players are based on Amosfield Road, and their weekly results appear in Warwick Today. Three codes get regular use: association croquet, golf croquet on Wednesdays, and ricochet. The players have held come-and-try days and invited local schools and community groups to try the game or run fundraising days on the lawn, with enquiries handled through the Stanthorpe Recreational Club.

There is traffic along the New England Highway too. Stanthorpe players have travelled to Warwick for association games, and reports have noted weeks when the Granite Belt lawn stayed playable while Warwick's was too wet to use.

What Stanthorpe's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

At around 800 metres on the Granite Belt, Stanthorpe is often called Queensland's coldest town. Frost is common through winter and summer days are milder than on the coast. A frosted or dewy lawn grips the ball and slows it, so players appreciate a head with enough weight to carry the ball to a distant hoop without forcing the swing, and cold hands appreciate a forgiving strike.

Which Invictus mallet suits Stanthorpe players

Invictus Rise, A$990. The model most of our players buy. Its aluminium head weighs about 3 lb and its sweet spot is slightly larger than the RF Pro's, making it a little easier to control on a slow, chilly morning. Most choose an 11 inch head.

RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, created with World Champion Robert Fletcher. The 3D printed aluminium head with brass weights and composite faces comes to about 2 lb 12 oz, a lighter and very precise tool for a confident striker.

Both are made once ordered, to your handle length, in an 11 or 12 inch head. The standard finish is Graphite Black; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold and Deep Purple are A$130.90 extra. You cannot choose the weight. See compare mallets for the differences.

Balls for Stanthorpe clubs

Invictus X balls are A$990 a set, 450 g each, World Croquet Federation championship approved and made entirely in Australia. One set of first and one of second colours per lawn is a sensible guide, and our note on what WCF approval means explains the standard they meet.

Delivery to Stanthorpe

Because mallets are made to order, delivery to Stanthorpe usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from the order date; that is an estimate. Balls travel by courier and we quote the delivered cost first.

Questions Stanthorpe players ask

Does frost affect an aluminium head? No. Cold and dew do it no harm; dry the faces after an early game.

I play ricochet as well. Does that change the choice? No. The same mallet works for ricochet, association and golf croquet.

Can I try it first? Add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (A$99) and play your Wednesday games with it before deciding.
