Croquet mallets and balls in Ryde
The short answer: croquet players in Ryde and across the Isle of Wight can buy Invictus mallets and Invictus X ball sets from us online, with delivery to the island. For a club that plays from April to November and through mild winters when it can, the 3 lb Invictus Rise is the mallet we would recommend first.
Croquet in Ryde
Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, in Playstreet Lane, celebrated its centenary in 2007 and offers croquet on four full-size lawns alongside tennis and padel. A sprinkler system for the croquet lawns was bought in 2004, and the clubhouse was nearly doubled in size with a Sport England grant in 2016, with a Croquet Association grant helping to refit the kitchen in 2018. The club has hosted several national tournaments over the years, including the Treasurer's Tankard and the Ascot Cup in 2010, the Spencer Ell in 2011 and the Musk Cup and President's Cup in 2013. Each June it runs the Isle of Wight Annual AC Advanced Tournament, and it sends teams into both island and mainland leagues. Visitors can book a lawn through the croquet secretary.
What Ryde's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The Isle of Wight is known for a mild, sunny climate, softened by the Solent. Island summers can dry lawns out, and the club has its own sprinkler system. Croquet carries on into November and through the winter when conditions permit, so Ryde players move between firm summer turf and damp, slower autumn grass.
Which Invictus mallet suits Ryde players
Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular mallet. Its 3 lb (or so) aluminium head keeps the ball moving on soft late-season lawns, and the sweet spot, slightly larger than usual, makes it a little easier to control. Take it with an 11 inch head, as we usually recommend.
RF Pro, £975. Our flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. The 3D printed aluminium head is loaded with brass and fronted by composite faces; total weight is close to 2 lb 12 oz. It is the lighter, very precise option for players who travel to mainland tournaments.
We build each mallet to your handle length once ordered, offering 11 inch and 12 inch heads. Graphite Black is standard; Rose Gold, Snow White, NRA Blue or Deep Purple add £89. Use the fitting guide and compare mallets before ordering.
Balls for Ryde clubs
Approved by the World Croquet Federation for championship play, Invictus X balls are 450 g each, made entirely in Australia, and £479 per set. Four lawns would, as a guide, call for one set of first colours and one of second colours on each. See what WCF approval means.
Delivery to Ryde
Each mallet is built after you order and posted within the UK, island addresses included; it normally arrives four to eight weeks later, an estimate. Ball sets are quoted to the Isle of Wight and that delivered price is agreed before you pay.
