Croquet mallets and balls in Rangiora and Kaiapoi

The short answer: Rangiora and Kaiapoi players can order an Invictus mallet made to their own handle length and delivered to North Canterbury. Two clubs here have just passed 120 years, and most members should begin by looking at the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in Rangiora and Kaiapoi

These neighbours in the Waimakariri district run an almost parallel story. Rangiora's club opened in December 1905 as part of a combined bowling, tennis and croquet club, with more than 300 guests. It has been at River Road since 2015, and the Star News reported over 60 active members ahead of its 120th celebration in December 2025.

Kaiapoi's club began the same year, on riverside land at Murphy Park given by the businessman and politician Sir Isaac Wilson. In October 2025 it opened a new home at 50 Courtenay Drive, inside the Kaiapoi Community Hub area. The clubhouse is a former tennis pavilion trucked 16 km from Papanui, and two new lawns were built to competition standard. Repeated flooding at the old site prompted the move.

Both clubs sit on the Canterbury Croquet Association's list, so a wider calendar of tournaments lies a short drive south.

What Rangiora's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

North Canterbury's hot nor'westers can dry a lawn quickly, and on these plains a surface may be firm and quick in January yet soft in a wet spring. Young lawns, like Kaiapoi's, also take time to knit and level. Check how the ball is running on your first roll-up of the day, rather than trusting last week's pace.

Which Invictus mallet suits Rangiora players

Invictus Rise. Our most popular mallet has an aluminium head of about 3 lb. A slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control, and we usually recommend an 11 inch head.

RF Pro. This flagship came from our work with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its 3D printed aluminium head holds brass weights and composite faces, about 2 lb 12 oz in all, so it feels lighter and very precise on a dry summer lawn.

Both are built only after you order, to your handle length, in an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is standard, while Deep Purple, Snow White, NRA Blue and Rose Gold cost extra. You cannot choose the weight. Measure up with mallet fitting, then compare the two.

Balls for Rangiora clubs

Invictus X balls weigh 450 g, hold World Croquet Federation championship approval and are made entirely in Australia. New lawns mean new sums, so read how many sets a club needs; we suggest one set of first colours and one of second per lawn.

Delivery to Rangiora

Usually 4 to 8 weeks from order, as an estimate.

Questions Rangiora players ask

When should I order for the new season? By mid-winter, so the estimate leaves room before spring.

Is the Rise heavy for an older player? Not always. Balance and handle length count, so ask to feel a similar mallet at your club.

Can I play with it before deciding? Yes, with the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
