Croquet mallets and balls in Aberystwyth and Mid Wales
The short answer: players in Aberystwyth, Aberdyfi and across Mid Wales can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online with delivery to the door. For a young golf croquet club on the Ceredigion coast, the forgiving Invictus Rise is the mallet we suggest first.
Croquet in Aberystwyth and Mid Wales
Aberystwyth Croquet Club was formed in September 2023, after its founders had played informally for two years, and 2024 was its first full season. It plays golf croquet at the home ground of Aberystwyth Cricket Club, at Llanbadarn Fawr, on two courts beside the pavilion that can take sixteen players at once. Members use the cricket pavilion, and all equipment is provided. Sessions run on Tuesday afternoons from 1.45pm to 4pm between April and September, with Thursdays kept for competitions, friendlies and wet-Tuesday catch-ups. Newcomers can book a free taster and, the club says, be playing a game within ten minutes. It is affiliated to the Welsh Croquet Association, is a member club of Croquet England and holds Ribbon status from Disability Sports Wales. Up the coast, Aberdyfi croquet players meet at the recreation ground and bowling club, and inland there are clubs at Llanidloes and Llandovery.
What Mid Wales lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Cardigan Bay faces straight into Atlantic weather, so Aberystwyth is mild, windy and often wet, with the Cambrian Mountains behind it catching more rain still. Grass there rarely bakes, and most sessions are played on soft, moist turf. Weight in the head moves the ball without a bigger swing, and a forgiving face keeps newer players' shots on line.
Which Invictus mallet suits Mid Wales players
Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular mallet. The aluminium head comes to roughly 3 lb, and its slightly enlarged sweet spot is what makes it a little easier to control. Go for the 11 inch head; it is our usual advice.
RF Pro, £975. Our flagship, created alongside World Champion Robert Fletcher. Think of it as the lighter, very precise one: some 2 lb 12 oz, built on a 3D printed aluminium head fitted out with brass weights and composite faces.
Mallets are made to order. We need your handle length and your head choice, 11 inches or 12; the finish is Graphite Black as standard or, for £89, Deep Purple, Snow White, Rose Gold or NRA Blue. Weight is not adjustable. Use the fitting guide and compare mallets.
Balls for Mid Wales clubs
The 450 g Invictus X ball is made entirely in Australia and has the World Croquet Federation's approval for championship play. Sets are £479. Two courts call, as a guide, for two first-colour sets and two second-colour sets. See how many sets a club needs.
Delivery to Mid Wales
Your mallet is started on the day you order and sent to the UK; reaching Ceredigion usually takes 4 to 8 weeks in all, as an estimate. A ball set is quoted at its delivered price, which you approve before paying.
Questions Mid Wales players ask
Our club only plays golf croquet. Which mallet? The Rise; its weight helps clearances on soft coastal grass.
Can I use it at Tuesday sessions before deciding? Yes. The satisfaction guarantee is an optional £75 and lasts 30 days.
Does Cardigan Bay rain affect the head? No. Dry the faces after play; see product care.
