Croquet mallets and balls in Maffra

The short answer: Maffra players can order an Invictus mallet built to their handle length and sent to the Macalister district, and the club can buy championship balls a set at a time. For a small club that plays morning practice on its own lawn, the Invictus Rise is our first suggestion.

Croquet in Maffra

Maffra Croquet Club is on the corner of Pearson and Boisdale Streets, a short turn off the main road at the Post Office. The Gippsland Times marked the club's 100 years in September 2024, reporting that it has used the same premises since its first lawn went in during 1924 and is believed to be the smallest active croquet club, by size of town, in Gippsland.

The club's listing describes practice sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 10am in winter and 9am during daylight saving and running to about midday. Visitors and groups are welcome and are asked to wear flat-soled shoes. Its calendar has included golf croquet open days as well as association, ricochet and gateball events.

What Maffra's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Maffra sits in the Macalister Irrigation District, flat dairy country between the Great Dividing Range and Sale. Summers are warm and can dry a lawn quickly, so by February balls run freely and soft approach shots need care. Winter mornings are cool and often dewy, which is when that 10am start pays off, though the first games still play slow.

Which Invictus mallet suits Maffra players

Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet, with an aluminium head of about 3 lb. A slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control, which suits steady social play across golf croquet and association. We generally recommend an 11 inch head.

RF Pro, A$1,980. Developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher, the flagship has a 3D printed aluminium head with brass weights and composite faces. At about 2 lb 12 oz it is lighter and very precise.

Both mallets are made to order to the player's handle length, in an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is standard; for A$130.90 more you can choose Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple. Weight is fixed. See compare mallets for the differences.

Balls for Maffra clubs

Invictus X balls hold World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and cost A$990 a set. One first-colour and one second-colour set per lawn is a good guide. Read what WCF approval means and how to choose club balls before you buy.

Delivery to Maffra

Mallets are made once ordered; delivery to Maffra usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from order. Treat that as an estimate.

Questions Maffra players ask

Is a 3 lb head too heavy for morning practice? Most players find it comfortable; the weight does the work so the swing stays smooth.

Does one mallet suit golf croquet and association? Yes. Either Invictus mallet handles both.

Can I return it if it is wrong for me? With the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee, A$99, you can play with it for a month first.
