Croquet mallets and balls in Launceston
The short answer: Launceston players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online for delivery anywhere in northern Tasmania. On the cool, slow lawns of the north, the 3 lb Invictus Rise is the mallet we suggest first.
Croquet in Launceston
The Northern Tasmanian Croquet Centre at St Leonards, part of a multi-sport complex, is run as a co-operative of four clubs: East Launceston, Royal Park, St Helens and St Leonards. It has eight lawns, offers come-and-try sessions with equipment provided on the first visit, and in February 2025 it staged the World Croquet Federation Golf Croquet World Teams Championship, with teams from eight nations. Tasmania counts eleven clubs and more than 1,000 members, and the game's roots here go back to the first public lawn at the cricket ground in Racecourse Crescent.
What Launceston's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Launceston's climate is cool temperate. Winter mornings in the Tamar Valley are cold, foggy and frequently frosty, and the lawns stay slow and damp for weeks; summers are mild and dry, so the greens firm up without ever becoming the baked surfaces of the mainland. Slower lawns for most of the year reward a mallet with weight in the head and a swing that stays smooth through the ball.
Which Invictus mallet suits Launceston players
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular model. The aluminium head, about 3 lb, carries through slow grass, and because the sweet spot is slightly larger it is somewhat easier to control. We usually recommend the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its head is 3D printed aluminium with brass weights and composite faces, weighing about 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise. It suits players who already compete at a high level or play mostly in summer.
Both come made to order: your handle length, a head of 11 or 12 inches, Graphite Black unless you choose Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple (A$130.90 extra). The fitting guide and compare mallets will help you choose.
Balls for Launceston clubs
Invictus X has World Croquet Federation championship approval, a 450 g weight and is made entirely in Australia, at A$990 the set. Allow a set of first colours and a set of second colours for each lawn. Our page on what WCF approval means explains why it matters for tournament play.

Questions Launceston players ask
Is the Rise too heavy for golf croquet? No. Plenty of golf croquet players prefer the 3 lb head on slow lawns; the lighter RF Pro is the alternative if you play mostly on fast summer courts.
Can I use it before deciding? Yes. There is an optional satisfaction guarantee, 30 days for A$99, so you can play at St Leonards before you commit.
Does frost harm the head? No. Aluminium shrugs off cold and dew; dry the faces after a frosty morning and see product care.
