Croquet in Kyabram

Kyabram Croquet Club traces its start to 31 October 1922, when 17 women met at the Mechanics' Institute to form a club, and it marked its centenary on that date in 2022 with morning tea, a display of memorabilia and lunch at the bowls club. It plays at 64-70 Church Street on two courts, as part of the Goulburn Valley association. Golf croquet is the game: in summer, Tuesday and Sunday sessions start at 7.30pm, with a Friday morning game as well, while winter play moves to Tuesday and Friday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Visitors are welcome and can borrow every piece of equipment. In 2023 the club installed two sets of Quadway hoops with help from the Kyabram Club and Campaspe Shire, which lets it host competition beyond club level, and its twilight social in January 2023 drew 32 players from seven clubs. Local schools use the courts too.

What Kyabram's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Kyabram is irrigated dairy and orchard country in the northern Goulburn Valley. Summer days are hot, the club plays two of its summer sessions in the evening, and the lawns are firm and quick. Winter brings cool, often foggy mornings and slower, damper grass.

Which Invictus mallet suits Kyabram players

RF Pro, A$1,980. This is our flagship, designed with World Champion Robert Fletcher's input. A 3D printed aluminium head, brass weights and composite faces bring the mallet to about 2 lb 12 oz. Lighter and very precise, it rewards a delicate stroke on a fast evening court.

Invictus Rise, A$990. Of our two mallets, the Rise is the more popular. The aluminium head carries around 3 lb, helpful when winter slows the grass, and a slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. An 11 inch head is what we normally recommend.

Both are made to your order, with the handle set to your length and a head of 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black is standard, and NRA Blue, Deep Purple, Snow White or Rose Gold add A$130.90. Our comparison and fitting guide explain the choices.

Balls for Kyabram clubs

Invictus X has World Croquet Federation approval for championship play, is made entirely in Australia and weighs 450 g. A set costs A$990; for a two-court club the guide is two sets of first colours and two of second. See what WCF approval means, useful now the club can host wider competition.
