Croquet mallets and balls in Hobart

The short answer: Hobart players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered anywhere in southern Tasmania. For the cool lawns along the Derwent, the 3 lb Invictus Rise is the mallet we suggest to most club players; the RF Pro is there for association players chasing medals.

Croquet in Hobart

Croquet took hold in Tasmania after 1903, when clubs formed in Hobart and Launceston, and today four clubs play in and around the city. New Town Croquet Club, founded in 1908 and the oldest in southern Tasmania, has three courts off St Johns Avenue and plays in green and yellow. Sandy Bay Croquet Club, ten minutes from the city on Long Point Road, has three full-size courts and plays every day of the year, with Saturday coaching for association beginners. On the Eastern Shore, the Bellerive club in South Street keeps two lawns and offers new members a course of six lessons, and Kingston, on Summerleas Road, gives beginners three free lessons. Hobart hosted the Australian National Association Croquet Championships in 2024 across five club venues, and the Tasmanian association gold and silver medals were played at Sandy Bay and Kingston in October 2026.

What Hobart's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Southern Tasmania is cool temperate. Summers are mild and seldom hot, and winters are cold, with chilly mornings that leave the grass damp and slow until well into the day. For most of the year a weighted head and a smooth swing pay off.

Which Invictus mallet suits Hobart players

Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. Its aluminium head is about 3 lb and carries the ball well on cool lawns, and the sweet spot is slightly larger, so it is a little easier to control. We usually recommend it with the 11 inch head.

RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium head with brass weights and composite faces brings it to about 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise, a fit for players aiming at state medal events.

Each mallet is made to order: your own handle length, an 11 or 12 inch head, and Graphite Black as standard. Snow White, Rose Gold, NRA Blue and Deep Purple are A$130.90 extra. Read the fitting guide, then compare the mallets.

Balls for Hobart clubs

Invictus X carries World Croquet Federation championship approval, weighs 450 g and is made entirely in Australia; one set is A$990. A first-colour set and a second-colour set per lawn is the usual guide. See what WCF approval means for a ball.

Delivery to Hobart

Mallets are made to order and usually reach Hobart 4 to 8 weeks after you order; that timing is an estimate. For ball sets, give us your lawn count and we will quote a delivered price.

Questions Hobart players ask

I play at a club that lends mallets. Why buy my own? Ours is made to your handle length, and it is the same mallet every game.

Can I play a month with it first? Yes. The optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee costs A$99.

Will cold, damp mornings affect it? No. Aluminium takes cold and moisture in its stride; dry the faces after play and see product care.
