Croquet mallets and balls in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs

The short answer: Eastern Suburbs players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online, every mallet built to order. As a first mallet of your own, we generally suggest the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in the Eastern Suburbs

The Sydney Croquet Club has been running hoops since 1922. It first rented lawns at Rushcutters Bay Park, until rising rents sent it to Woollahra Council. Its Log Cabin clubhouse and two purpose-built lawns at Woollahra Park opened on 27 April 1935. Between 1935 and 1950 the club won eight A Grade and three B Grade state pennants, and in 1956 the state association moved its headquarters there. After a social-only spell from 1962 it re-affiliated in 1984, took up golf croquet in the 2000s and won Division 2 golf croquet pennants in 2011 and 2012. Today it plays at 50 O'Sullivan Road, Rose Bay, inside the grounds of Woollahra Golf Club, on two lawns for up to sixteen players, with equipment provided for newcomers. South along the coast, the Coogee Croquet Club tucks into a corner of Bardon Park, a short walk from the beach, with its gate in Bream Street opposite the tennis club.

What the Eastern Suburbs' lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Here the ocean sets the weather: warm, humid summers, sea breezes most afternoons and mild winters with no real frost. Summer storms leave lawns soft for days, and a head with some weight copes with those spells.

Which Invictus mallet suits Eastern Suburbs players

Invictus Rise, A$990. Our customers choose the Rise more than any other model. Its head is aluminium and weighs in at roughly 3 lb; the sweet spot has been made a little bigger, so keeping the ball under control is slightly easier. An 11 inch head is our standard advice.

RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, designed with input from World Champion Robert Fletcher, with an aluminium head produced by 3D printing, brass weighting and composite faces. Total head weight is about 2 lb 12 oz, which makes it the lighter mallet, and a very precise one.

Give us the handle length that fits you and pick an 11 or a 12 inch head. Every order comes in Graphite Black unless you pay A$130.90 for Deep Purple, Snow White, Rose Gold or NRA Blue. Two guides help: how to fit a mallet and Rise versus RF Pro.

Balls for Eastern Suburbs clubs

A set of Invictus X is A$990. The balls weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and are approved by the World Croquet Federation for championship play. For a two-lawn club like Rose Bay, the rule of thumb is two first-colour sets plus two second-colour sets. See what WCF approval means.

Delivery to the Eastern Suburbs

Your mallet is made after you order and generally arrives 4 to 8 weeks later, as an estimate.
