Croquet mallets and balls in Ballarat
The short answer: Ballarat players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered to the goldfields. On Ballarat's cold, slow winter lawns the 3 lb Invictus Rise is the mallet we point most players to.
Croquet in Ballarat
Croquet here dates from the early 1900s, and the Ballarat and District Croquet Association now counts more than 130 members across its two city clubs, Ballarat Alexandra in Gillies Street and Ballarat Western. Alexandra's four courts, built after drought ruined its old lawns, were fully renovated in December 2025, with Western's next in line. With only two clubs left to field teams, pennant has given way to cross-town challenges, and Alexandra has hosted round-robin qualifying for a Golf Croquet World Championship.
What Ballarat's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
At over 400 metres, Ballarat is one of Victoria's coldest cities. Winters bring frost, fog and drizzle, and a lawn that has soaked up a week of rain plays heavy and slow. Summers are warm and dry, and the same courts firm up and quicken. You want a mallet that moves the ball on a sodden July morning yet has feel on a fast February afternoon.
Which Invictus mallet suits Ballarat players
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. Its aluminium head weighs around 3 lb and pushes through slow grass without forcing the swing, and a sweet spot a touch larger than usual keeps off-centre hits on line. We usually recommend the 11 inch head with it.
RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, developed alongside World Champion Robert Fletcher. The head is 3D printed in aluminium, fitted with brass weights and composite faces, and weighs about 2 lb 12 oz; lighter and very precise.
Both are made to order to your handle length with an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is the standard finish; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold and Deep Purple cost A$130.90 more. See the fitting guide for handle length and compare mallets for the two side by side.
Balls for Ballarat clubs
Invictus X carries World Croquet Federation championship approval, weighs 450 g and is made entirely in Australia; A$990 buys a set of four. The usual guide is a set of first colours plus a set of second colours for every lawn. Our page on what WCF approval means explains the standard.
Delivery to Ballarat
Mallets are built one at a time; count on roughly 4 to 8 weeks from order to your door in Ballarat, an estimate rather than a guarantee. Ball sets are sent by courier and we confirm the delivered price before you pay.
Questions Ballarat players ask
Will a 3 lb head feel heavy on fast summer lawns? Rarely; most players shorten the backswing a touch in summer. Those who play mainly in the warm months may prefer the lighter RF Pro.
I cannot try one before I buy. Is there a way back? Yes: the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (A$99) lets you play club games before deciding to keep it.
Does frost damage an aluminium head? No. Cold and dew do not affect it; wipe the faces dry after a wet game and read our product care notes.
