Croquet mallets and balls in Young
The short answer: croquet players in Young can buy an Invictus mallet sized to their own handle length, sent to the Hilltops, while the club can add Invictus X balls one set at a time. For the mixed conditions of a South West Slopes year, we recommend the Invictus Rise to most players.
Croquet in Young
Young Croquet Club plays at Jack Bond Field, listed at 5 Binalong Street, where Hilltops Council maintains three croquet courts with a clubhouse and toilets. The club plays both association and golf croquet as well as social games, and it hosts regular events, carnivals and competitions that bring players in from near and far. Outside the set playing times, the courts can be used by arrangement, and the club says new players are welcome.
Young is better known as the cherry capital of Australia, and the National Cherry Festival fills the town each December.
What Young's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The town sits on the South West Slopes of New South Wales, with frosty winters and warm to hot summers. A croquet court here changes a lot across the year: crisp and quick in the dry months, slow and holding when the frost lifts on a winter morning. One mallet for every season needs some head weight and a forgiving face.
Which Invictus mallet suits Young players
Invictus Rise, A$990. More players pick the Rise than anything else we make. Roughly 3 lb of aluminium in the head gets a ball rolling off a frosty court, and because the sweet spot is a little larger than the flagship's, control comes slightly easier. An 11 inch head is the norm.
RF Pro, A$1,980. World Champion Robert Fletcher helped develop our flagship. Brass weights and composite faces are set into a 3D printed aluminium head, and the whole mallet comes in near 2 lb 12 oz: lighter in the hands and very precise.
Nothing is pulled off a shelf: give us your handle length and pick an 11 inch or 12 inch head. Standard colour is Graphite Black, the alternatives (Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold, Deep Purple) are A$130.90, and the weight is fixed. Compare mallets sets the two side by side.
Balls for Young clubs
Invictus X sets are A$990, 450 g per ball, approved by the World Croquet Federation for championship play and made entirely in Australia. A guide of one first-colour and one second-colour set per court is explained in how many ball sets a club needs.
Delivery to Young
Each mallet is built to order, so delivery to Young usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from your order; that is an estimate. Balls come by courier, and we confirm the delivered price before you order.
Questions Young players ask
Which head size do most people choose? The 11 inch. A 12 inch head gives a bit more stability on long shots.
Can I try it before committing? Yes: the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee costs A$99 and lets you use the mallet at Jack Bond Field before you decide.
How should I look after it? Wipe and dry it after play; see product care.
