Croquet mallets and balls in Yarrawonga
The short answer: players in Yarrawonga and Mulwala can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered on either side of Lake Mulwala. For golf croquet on firm, sunny courts the RF Pro gives the finest touch, and the Invictus Rise is the easier mallet for newer players.
Croquet in Yarrawonga
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Croquet Club plays at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort, just over the river in Mulwala, on three A-grade courts laid in 2016 beside the accommodation and the pool. It plays golf croquet only, all year round when the weather allows: competition on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and social games on Friday and Saturday mornings, with the draw closing at 9.15am. Friday morning is the session the club recommends for anyone learning the game, and mallets are supplied for newcomers. The club runs an invitational, the Yarrawonga Classic, and its social days draw players from right across the border district; one in 2022 brought 36 players from Albury, Beechworth, Benalla, Howlong, Walla Walla, Wangaratta and Wodonga, with morning and afternoon tea.
What Yarrawonga's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
This is Murray River holiday country, built around the lake and the weir. Summers are long, hot and sunny, and the courts run firm and fast by midsummer, when a soft stroke and careful judgement of pace win games. Winters are cool and clear, often with frosty mornings, and the slower grass then calls for a little more weight through the ball.
Which Invictus mallet suits Yarrawonga players
RF Pro, A$1,980. The RF Pro, our flagship, came from development work with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its 3D printed aluminium head holds brass weights behind composite faces, and it weighs about 2 lb 12 oz. Being lighter and very precise, it is a natural fit for quick summer courts and Tuesday competition.
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. The aluminium head is close to 3 lb, which keeps the ball moving through winter, and the slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control for Friday learners. We generally recommend an 11 inch head.
Both mallets are made only when ordered, with the handle cut to your length and a head of 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black comes standard; Snow White, Deep Purple, NRA Blue or Rose Gold add A$130.90. Our fitting page and comparison page set it out.
Balls for Yarrawonga clubs
Each Invictus X ball is 450 g, made entirely in Australia and championship approved by the World Croquet Federation. Sets are A$990, and three courts would usually mean three sets of first colours and three of second. Read how clubs choose balls.
