Croquet mallets and balls in Weston-super-Mare

The short answer: Weston-super-Mare players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it delivered in North Somerset. For a club with five Golf Croquet league teams and a strong social side, the Invictus Rise is our usual first recommendation.

Croquet in Weston-super-Mare

Weston-super-Mare Croquet Club is based in the village of Bleadon, in Purn Way, about ten minutes from the town. It has an unusual layout: six small lawns open for play seven days a week from 10am until dusk, which convert into three full-size lawns for league matches and competitions. The club fields one team in Association Croquet leagues and five in Golf Croquet leagues, and it puts a strong emphasis on the social side of the game, with an annual Reds v Blues v Whites club day among its events. Newcomers of any age are welcome, coaching is available to complete beginners, and all equipment except flat-soled shoes is free for members to use. In the town itself, part of the lawn at Clarence Park has also been marked out for croquet.

What Weston-super-Mare's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Bleadon sits beneath the Mendips, close to the Bristol Channel coast, and the weather is mild and often damp, with sea breezes. Small lawns played every day see a lot of short, accurate shots, and grass that is soft after rain in spring and firm in a dry summer. A forgiving mallet that stays consistent across both suits play here.

Which Invictus mallet suits Weston-super-Mare players

On Bleadon's small lawns most members will get on best with the Invictus Rise, at £525. It is our best-selling mallet, with an aluminium head of about 3 lb for carry on damp grass and a slightly enlarged sweet spot that makes short, delicate approaches a little easier to control. We normally fit an 11 inch head.

The RF Pro, at £975, is the flagship of our range and was developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Brass weights and composite faces are housed in an aluminium head made by 3D printing, and the whole mallet is close to 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise for the club's AC league team.

We make either one once you order, cut to your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. The standard colour is Graphite Black; Rose Gold, NRA Blue, Deep Purple or Snow White carry a charge of £89. Use our fitting page and compare the two.

Balls for Weston-super-Mare clubs

Approved by the World Croquet Federation for championship play, Invictus X balls weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and cost £479 for a set. When the six small lawns become three full-size ones, the guide is six sets: first and second colours on each. See how a club should choose its balls.

Delivery to Weston-super-Mare

Each mallet is made after the order and then posted within the UK, generally arriving in North Somerset four to eight weeks on; that is an estimate. We tell you the delivered price of any ball set and wait for your approval before payment.

Questions Weston-super-Mare players ask

Do small lawns call for a different mallet? Not really; the Rise forgives on short shots, and the RF Pro offers the finest touch.

Could I use it in a league match before deciding? Yes. The optional satisfaction guarantee costs £75 and runs for 30 days.

Can I order a particular head weight? No; the weight belongs to the model, heavier in the Rise and lighter in the RF Pro.
