Croquet mallets and balls in Watford

The short answer: Watford players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it delivered in south-west Hertfordshire. For a club that runs open tournaments all summer, the precise RF Pro will suit stronger players, while the Invictus Rise is the easier mallet for the many members who start with Golf Croquet.

Croquet in Watford

Watford (Cassiobury) Croquet Club celebrates its ninetieth year in 2026. It plays on four courts in Cassiobury Park, a little north-west of the town centre; the fourth court opened in 2019, and the club has a new pavilion. The facilities are leased from Watford Borough Council, which also maintains the courts. Croquet has been played around Cassiobury since the nineteenth century, and Golf Croquet has been part of the club since 1936, with a strong revival from 2003. There are about 80 members, from beginners to players high in the UK rankings. The club plays in the Beds and Herts League and the East Anglian GC leagues and stages a long run of open events: in 2026 these included midweek Advanced and B-level AC tournaments, Golf Croquet series events from D-level to A-level and the GC All England Handicap final in September. Newcomers can try the game free.

What Watford's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

The main season runs from April to September, and in mid-October 2026 three of the four courts closed for winter maintenance. Summers in the Colne valley are usually warm, and a well-kept park court then plays quick and true for tournaments. Early and late in the season the grass is softer and slower. A Watford mallet needs precision for summer events and enough weight for April.

Which Invictus mallet suits Watford players

RF Pro, £975. We developed this flagship with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its 3D printed aluminium head holds brass weights behind composite faces and the mallet weighs about 2 lb 12 oz. It is lighter and very precise, the natural pick for open tournament play.

Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular mallet. A head of approximately 3 lb, in aluminium, moves the ball on soft spring courts, and a slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. Pair it with the 11 inch head, our usual advice.

Both are made to order to your handle length, choosing an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is standard and NRA Blue, Rose Gold, Deep Purple or Snow White add £89. See the fitting guide and the mallet comparison.

Balls for Watford clubs

Invictus X balls carry World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; they cost £479 per set. With four courts, a club would allow eight sets, first and second colours on every court. Our page on how many sets a club needs explains the count.

Delivery to Watford

We make each mallet after you order and send it to the UK; it usually reaches Watford 4 to 8 weeks from order, an estimate. For ball sets we confirm the delivered price before payment.

Questions Watford players ask

I play Golf Croquet socially. Do I need the RF Pro? No; the Rise suits most social and league GC players.

Can I try it in a club game first? Yes. Add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for £75.

Will it cope with damp autumn courts? Yes. Aluminium is unaffected by damp; dry the faces afterwards and see product care.
