Croquet mallets and balls in Surbiton
The short answer: Surbiton players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online for delivery in south-west London. At a club that hosts national championships, many competitive members will want the precise RF Pro; for newer players the Invictus Rise is the easier mallet to live with.
Croquet in Surbiton
Surbiton Croquet Club, at Alexandra Drive, has roots in the nineteenth century and was later re-established as a club purely for croquet players. With a clubhouse and seven lawns about ten miles south-west of central London, it was a venue for the 2011 Golf Croquet World Championship and the 2013 AC World Championship, and in 2026 it shared the MacRobertson Shield, the world team championship of Association Croquet, with Hurlingham, Roehampton and Sussex County. Its 2026 calendar also included an Easter Open incorporating the 58th Championship of Surrey, the AC men's, women's and mixed doubles championships in June, and national schools championships. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome.
What Surbiton's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Summers in south-west London are usually warm and fairly dry, and championship lawns are prepared to run fast and true. That rewards a smooth, controlled stroke. The season opens at Easter, though, when spring grass is often still damp and slower, so a mallet that only works on quick lawns can leave you short in April.
Which Invictus mallet suits Surbiton players
RF Pro, £975. The flagship we built with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Brass weights and composite faces are fitted to a head 3D printed from aluminium, and the mallet weighs about 2 lb 12 oz. Lighter and very precise, it is made for fast lawns and serious competition.
Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular mallet. An aluminium head of around 3 lb keeps its pace on slower spring grass, and the slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. We usually recommend an 11 inch head.
Both are made to order for your handle length, in 11 or 12 inch head lengths. Graphite Black is the standard finish; Snow White, Rose Gold, NRA Blue and Deep Purple carry an £89 surcharge. Our fitting guide and compare mallets page set out the details.
Balls for Surbiton clubs
Invictus X balls have World Croquet Federation championship approval, a 450 g weight and are made entirely in Australia. A set costs £479. Our guide is a set of first colours and a set of second colours for each lawn, which for seven lawns adds up quickly; see how many sets a club needs.
Delivery to Surbiton
Mallets are made to order and sent to the UK, reaching south-west London usually 4 to 8 weeks from your order, as an estimate. For ball sets we confirm the delivered price before payment.
Questions Surbiton players ask
Which mallet do tournament players choose? It depends on the player. Those who want fine control on fast lawns often lean to the RF Pro; others keep the Rise for its forgiveness.
Can I use it in a tournament before deciding? The optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (£75) gives you a month of real play first.
Is a 12 inch head better for long shots? It is a matter of feel; the fitting guide helps you choose. Once it arrives, our care notes keep it in shape.
