Croquet mallets and balls in Ripon
The short answer: croquet players in and around Ripon can order an Invictus mallet, cut to their handle length, or Invictus X balls online with delivery to the door. For a small, keen club playing mostly golf croquet on North Yorkshire grass, the Invictus Rise is the mallet we suggest first.
Croquet in Ripon
Ripon Spa Croquet Club played for nearly ten years at the Ripon Spa Hotel on Park Street, and when the hotel changed hands in 2021 it moved to three specialist lawns in the grounds of Studley Royal Cricket Club on Galphay Lane. In 2025 the club had 20 members, nine of them playing tournaments beyond the club, and it ran three club sessions and two team sessions a week from April to September. Members play association and golf croquet but favour golf croquet as the quicker, more sociable game, and they compete in the Cross Pennine league, the Maggie Cowman Cup and the Yorkshire federation's level-play league. For National Croquet Week 2025 it offered free sessions with equipment and tuition. Nearby, Bishop Monkton Croquet Club plays on two lawns at the village hall and QE II field.
What Ripon's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Ripon lies on the edge of the Vale of York, with the Dales rising to the west. Seasons start cool and damp in April, settle into firmer, faster lawns only in a dry summer, and turn soft again by September. Golf croquet rewards a confident hit through the ball, which on slow grass is easiest with mass behind the face.
Which Invictus mallet suits Ripon players
Invictus Rise, £525. The model most of our players pick. About 3 lb of aluminium head, plus a sweet spot slightly larger than you may be used to, makes it a little easier to control. Our default pairing is an 11 inch head.
RF Pro, £975. Flagship, and the product of our work with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium body carries brass weights and composite striking faces, and the mallet comes to around 2 lb 12 oz, so it is lighter and very precise.
Built to order, each one matches the handle length you send us, with an 11 inch or 12 inch head. Standard colour: Graphite Black. Extra £89: Snow White, NRA Blue, Deep Purple or Rose Gold. Weight is not a choice. Use our fitting notes and compare mallets.
Balls for Ripon clubs
The World Croquet Federation approves Invictus X for championship play; each ball is 450 g and made entirely in Australia, and a set is £479. Three lawns, by our guide, take three first-colour sets and three second-colour sets. See ball colours explained.
Delivery to Ripon
Your mallet is made after ordering and sent to the UK, reaching North Yorkshire usually 4 to 8 weeks after you order; that is an estimate only. Ball orders come with a delivered price for you to approve before paying.
Questions Ripon players ask
We mainly play golf croquet. Rise or RF Pro? Usually the Rise, whose weight helps on slow lawns.
Can I play a few team sessions with it first? Yes. The 30-day satisfaction guarantee is free on your first Invictus mallet.
Does dew on an April morning affect the head? No. Dry the faces after play, as product care explains.
