Croquet mallets and balls in Queanbeyan
The short answer: Queanbeyan players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online; each mallet is made to order and delivered. If you are moving on from the club's equipment, start with the Invictus Rise.
Croquet in Queanbeyan
Croquet came to Queanbeyan six years after Canberra's club began. A public meeting on 20 September 1934 formed the Queanbeyan Croquet Club, and the municipal council laid a lawn on part of the old Police Paddock in Farrer Place, beside the new bowling club; the lawn opened for play on 28 November 1935. The clubhouse started life as a shelter shed bought from Duntroon for three pounds ten shillings, and gained a kitchen and change rooms in 1956. In 1948 the club won the state association's A Division pennant, and in 1984 a player who learned the game here toured America with the Australian team. The club is still at 28 Farrer Place, next to the Queanbeyan Bowling Club, and says it is the only croquet club in the area with night lights. Association croquet is played on Wednesdays and golf croquet through the week, with all equipment provided for newcomers in flat-soled shoes.
What Queanbeyan's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Queanbeyan shares the Canberra region's climate of hot, dry summers and sharp, frosty winters. A July morning lawn is often white at the start of play and heavy for hours, while late summer can bake the same court quick and firm.
Which Invictus mallet suits Queanbeyan players
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet, with roughly 3 lb in its aluminium head; on a frosty or dewy lawn that weight does a lot of the work. A slightly larger sweet spot makes the Rise a little easier to control, and the 11 inch head is our usual pairing.
RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship we developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium head carries brass weights and composite faces, and the mallet head comes to about 2 lb 12 oz, making it lighter and very precise.
Both are made to order for your handle length, with the head at 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black is our standard finish, while Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold and Deep Purple are A$130.90 extra. Measure with the fitting guide, then look at the two mallets side by side.
Balls for Queanbeyan clubs
Invictus X has World Croquet Federation championship approval. Each ball is 450 g, made entirely in Australia, and a set is A$990. The guide is one first-colour set and one second-colour set for every lawn in play; our page on how many sets a club needs explains.
Delivery to Queanbeyan
Every mallet is built after the order is placed, and it usually takes 4 to 8 weeks to reach Queanbeyan. That is our estimate, not a fixed date.
Questions Queanbeyan players ask
The club lends equipment. Why buy my own? A mallet built to your handle length is yours every session; most players start with the Rise.
Can I play with it before I decide? Yes. The optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee, A$99, covers a month of Wednesdays and weekday golf.
Does frost bother the head? No; it is aluminium. Dry it after play; see product care.
