Croquet mallets and balls in Port Lincoln

The short answer: Port Lincoln players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it delivered to the Eyre Peninsula. For golf croquet, the club's main game, the Invictus Rise is the easy all-round choice; the RF Pro is the lighter, sharper alternative.

Croquet in Port Lincoln

Port Lincoln Croquet Club plays in Bowling Avenue and is affiliated with the South Australian Croquet Association. Golf croquet is the main game, in which every player is on the court at once, and the club describes it as suited to all ages, good for both body and mind. Men's and women's competition is held on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm, and a come-and-try session runs on Thursday mornings at 10am. Equipment is provided, and players can pay per session or take out an annual membership. An ABC report on the club described those Thursday mornings as relaxed, with morning tea, plenty of laughter and new faces most weeks.

What Port Lincoln's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Port Lincoln has a Mediterranean climate on the shores of Boston Bay. Summers are warm and dry, with sea breezes that take the edge off the afternoon heat; winters are mild and bring most of the year's rain. Expect firm, fairly quick lawns from late spring to autumn, when golf croquet turns on fine judgement, and softer grass through the wet months.

Which Invictus mallet suits Port Lincoln players

Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. A head of about 3 lb in aluminium, plus a sweet spot a touch larger than usual, makes it a little easier to control. We usually suggest it with the 11 inch head.

RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship we developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its 3D printed aluminium head holds brass weights and composite faces, and the mallet weighs about 2 lb 12 oz. It is lighter and very precise, suiting competitive players on summer's quicker lawns.

We make each one to order, with the handle sized to you and a head of 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black is standard, and Snow White, Deep Purple, Rose Gold or NRA Blue cost A$130.90 extra. Our fitting guide and mallet comparison will help you choose.

Balls for Port Lincoln clubs

Invictus X balls carry World Croquet Federation approval for championship play, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; each set costs A$990. Plan on a first-colour set and a second-colour set for each lawn. See croquet ball colours.

Questions Port Lincoln players ask

I only play golf croquet. Which should I buy? The Rise, unless you already compete and want the RF Pro's lighter feel.

Can I see how it plays before I commit? Yes: our optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee, A$99, lets you play club competition with it first.

Does sea air affect the head? No. Aluminium copes well near the coast; wipe it down after play and read product care.
