Croquet mallets and balls in Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville

The short answer: players in Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville and the rest of northeast Florida can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them shipped to their door. Courts here are kept to a putting-green finish, so the precise RF Pro deserves a look, though the Invictus Rise is where most players start.

Croquet in Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville

The Ponte Vedra Croquet Club sits at the end of Mosquito Control Road in Ponte Vedra Beach, in a converted former mosquito control substation. Opened around 2015, it has three full-size courts and four three-quarter-size courts across its North and South Lawns, plus a pavilion and a Sunday-afternoon Wine and Wickets gathering. The club has offered free introductory lessons on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, with instruction and equipment at no charge, and it hosts a USCA-sanctioned golf croquet tournament each November that the public may watch. Visitors to the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club can also book a tournament-style lawn set up as two golf croquet courts, open from 7 a.m. until dusk.

What northeast Florida's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

The First Coast has hot, humid summers with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and mild winters with the odd cold snap. The most comfortable croquet falls from fall through spring. A lawn kept daily to a putting-green finish runs fast and true, so pace control decides games, though a summer downpour can slow it for a while.

Which Invictus mallet suits First Coast players

RF Pro, US$1,295. Our flagship was developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. The head is aluminum, 3D printed, with brass weights and composite faces, and the mallet weighs about 2 lb 12 oz: lighter, very precise and well matched to slick, fast courts.

Invictus Rise, US$695. The most popular Invictus. Its head is aluminum at roughly 3 lb, with a sweet spot slightly bigger than most, which makes it a little easier to control while you learn. We advise the 11 inch head for most Rise owners.

Both mallets are made to order to your handle length, and both come with an 11 inch or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is the standard color; Snow White, Rose Gold, Deep Purple or NRA Blue adds US$119. See the fitting guide and comparison page.

Balls for First Coast clubs

Invictus X balls hold World Croquet Federation approval for championship play. They weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia, and a set costs US$635. Our guide is a first-color set and a second-color set per court. Read how many ball sets a club needs.

Questions First Coast players ask

I learned on club mallets at a free lesson. Which should I buy? The Rise, for its forgiveness.

Can I return it? Choose the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for US$99, then decide after a month of play.

Does beach humidity matter? Not to aluminum. Wipe the faces down after play; see product care.
