Croquet mallets and balls in Phillip Island
The short answer: croquet players on Phillip Island can have an Invictus mallet built to their handle length and sent across the bridge to Cowes, and the club can order Invictus X balls by the set. For damp, breezy island lawns, most players will be happiest with the Invictus Rise.
Croquet in Phillip Island
The Phillip Island Croquet Club plays at Blue Gum Recreational Reserve, 120 Dunsmore Road in Cowes, on three grass greens. It began with three foundation members playing on a front lawn in Cowes, dates from 21 November 1975, and marked fifty years in 2025 with a high tea. Golf croquet is played on Monday, Friday and Saturday and association croquet on Tuesday and Thursday, the club fields teams in the West Gippsland interclub competition, and visiting players are welcome.
What Phillip Island's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Sitting in Bass Strait, the island has a mild maritime climate: cool, wet, windy winters and summers that rarely bake the ground hard. Soft, green grass for much of the year takes pace off the ball. A head with some mass behind it lets you reach the far hoop with an unhurried swing, and salty sea air means the faces deserve a wipe after each session.
Which Invictus mallet suits Phillip Island players
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. Its aluminium head sits at about 3 lb, a help on a soft, holding green, and the sweet spot is a touch larger, which makes it a little more forgiving. Most go with the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium head carries brass weights and composite faces and comes in around 2 lb 12 oz, so it suits a player who wants a lighter, exacting mallet.
Both are made once you order, to your handle length, with a choice of 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is standard, and Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple add A$130.90. The weight is fixed. Our mallet fitting guide explains how to measure.
Balls for Phillip Island clubs
Invictus X balls cost A$990 a set. They are 450 g, hold World Croquet Federation championship approval and are made entirely in Australia. As a guide, a club keeps one set of first colours and one of second for each lawn, so three greens points to three of each; choosing balls for a club covers the rest.
Delivery to Phillip Island
Mallets are built to order, and delivery to the island usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from the order date, as an estimate. Balls go by courier, and we confirm the delivered cost to Cowes before you commit.
Questions Phillip Island players ask
Will sea air damage the head? Not with simple care. Wipe the head and faces after play and store the mallet dry; product care has the detail.
I play both codes at Blue Gum. Do I need two mallets? No. One mallet serves golf and association croquet alike.
Can I try it before I commit? Add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (A$99) and use the mallet in your Tuesday or Saturday games first.
