Croquet mallets and balls on Sydney's Northern Beaches
The short answer: Northern Beaches players can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online, each mallet made to order and delivered to your door. For most club players here, our pick is the Invictus Rise.
Croquet on the Northern Beaches
Croquet has been played in Manly since 1901, and the Manly Croquet Club celebrated its 125th year in 2026 with a garden party in September. Its three lawns and clubhouse, at 275B Pittwater Road behind the Senior Citizens Hall, date from 1967. Members can book a court any day of the week and play either golf croquet, the usual starting point for newcomers, or the traditional association game, with introductory lessons arranged by the club. Manly also stages tournaments: it hosted the NSW golf croquet ACA Bronze Medal in June 2025 and runs the Manly Seabreeze golf croquet carnival, held from 7 to 10 May in 2026. Further north, the Mona Vale Croquet Club is a young and growing club that welcomes beginners as well as experienced players, and at Elanora Heights the Elanora Country Club keeps a croquet lawn beside its pavilion for members and their guests.
What the Northern Beaches' lawns and weather mean for your mallet
This is a coastal climate: humid summers with afternoon storms, mild winters and almost no frost. After heavy summer rain a lawn turns soft and slow; a dry, breezy spell can leave it fast and firm by the weekend. A mallet with some heft and a forgiving face handles both.
Which Invictus mallet suits Northern Beaches players
Invictus Rise, A$990. Of the two, this is our most popular. About 3 lb of aluminium is in the head, and the sweet spot runs a little larger, making the Rise slightly easier to control. We usually recommend the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, a joint development with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Expect a 3D printed aluminium head with brass weights and composite faces, weighing about 2 lb 12 oz: lighter, and very precise for players who enter carnivals.
We build it to your handle length, and the head can be 11 or 12 inches. The standard colour is Graphite Black; you may also choose Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple for A$130.90. See the fitting guide and compare the two mallets before ordering.
Balls for Northern Beaches clubs
Invictus X balls weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and have World Croquet Federation championship approval; each set is A$990. For a three-lawn club such as Manly, the guide is three first-colour sets and three second-colour sets. See our ball colours explainer.
Delivery to the Northern Beaches
Because the mallet is built to your order, it usually lands on the Northern Beaches 4 to 8 weeks after you buy it, as an estimate rather than a promise.
Questions Northern Beaches players ask
Can I ask for a heavier head for soft summer lawns? No; weight comes with the model. For soft lawns we suggest the Rise, at about 3 lb.
I am new from introductory lessons. Which mallet? The Rise, cut to your own handle length.
Can I play with it before committing? Yes; the free 30-day satisfaction guarantee gives you a month of real games.
