Croquet mallets and balls in Newcastle upon Tyne
The short answer: Tyneside players can buy an Invictus mallet or a club set of Invictus X balls online and have it delivered to Newcastle upon Tyne. For a north-east season of cool, breezy afternoons on soft grass, the Invictus Rise is the one we recommend first.
Croquet in Newcastle upon Tyne
Tyneside Croquet Club was formed in 1983 and plays in the north-east corner of Exhibition Park, off Claremont Road, next to Wylam Brewery, with its own clubhouse and car park. Members play both association croquet, as handicap or advanced singles and doubles, and golf croquet, and the club enters regional and national leagues. Coaching courses start at the beginning of each season, which runs from April to September, and newcomers have been offered free coaching, the use of club equipment and no green fee for their first three sessions. Tyneside belongs to Croquet England and to the Croquet North Federation, alongside clubs such as Backworth, Jarrow, Alnmouth, Bamburgh and Belsay Hall.
What Newcastle's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The north-east has a short playing year and a cool one. April and September sessions are often brisk, North Sea winds can chill an evening game, and grass that never quite dries out plays slower than a southern lawn in the same month. Speed arrives only in settled summer spells. A mallet with enough head weight to send a ball the length of the lawn without a big swing, and a face that forgives a stiff, cold-weather stroke, is the practical choice.
Which Invictus mallet suits Tyneside players
Invictus Rise, £525. The most popular mallet in our range. Its aluminium head is close to 3 lb, and with a slightly wider sweet spot it is a bit easier to control. An 11 inch head is our normal pairing.
RF Pro, £975. The flagship, shaped with World Champion Robert Fletcher: 3D printed aluminium, brass weights, composite faces and roughly 2 lb 12 oz, which makes it lighter and very precise.
You choose the handle length and an 11 or 12 inch head, and we build to order. Graphite Black is the default; NRA Blue, Snow White, Rose Gold or Deep Purple adds £89. Model weights are set and not selectable. Start with the fitting guide, then compare mallets.
Balls for Tyneside clubs
Invictus X balls carry World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; £479 buys a set. The rule of thumb is a first-colour set plus a second-colour set for each lawn. See how many sets a club needs.
Delivery to Newcastle upon Tyne

Questions Tyneside players ask
Our season is short. Is it worth buying my own mallet? A mallet cut to your handle length makes every one of those April to September sessions more consistent.
Can I use it in league games before I decide? Yes, through the free 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
Do cold evenings affect an aluminium head? No. Wipe off dew after play and keep to our care notes.
