Croquet mallets and balls in Kyneton

The short answer: Kyneton and Macedon Ranges players can order an Invictus mallet made to their own handle length and delivered to the town, and clubs can add championship balls one set at a time. On the cool, frost-prone greens of Ebden Street, the Invictus Rise is where we would start most players.

Croquet in Kyneton

Kyneton Croquet Club plays on the corner of Ebden and Donnithorne Streets, where the Macedon Ranges Shire lists four large croquet greens and clubrooms dating from 1929. Local histories trace a croquet club in the town to a newspaper reference from 1866, and the club bills itself as the oldest in Australia; in 2026 the Midland Express reported it marking 150 years of play.

Members play socially on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and enter local, regional and pennant competitions. Through January and February the club has run twilight "come and try" sessions on Wednesdays from 5 to 7pm, and open days have been held around the Kyneton Daffodil Festival.

What Kyneton's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Kyneton sits in the Macedon Ranges just north of the Great Dividing Range, and its winters are cold. Frost lingers on the greens on still mornings, so early games are played on a heavy, wet surface that needs a firm stroke. By late summer the greens dry out and run fast, and judging pace becomes the challenge.

Which Invictus mallet suits Kyneton players

Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. The aluminium head weighs about 3 lb and offers a slightly larger sweet spot, so it is a little easier to control when a cold, damp lawn is soaking up pace. An 11 inch head is our usual recommendation.

RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium head with brass weights and composite faces brings it to about 2 lb 12 oz: lighter and very precise.

Both are built to order to your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black comes standard, and Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple add A$130.90. Head weight is not an option. See mallet fitting and compare mallets.

Balls for Kyneton clubs

Invictus X balls carry World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia. A set is A$990. For four greens, a first-colour and a second-colour set per lawn is a sensible guide; croquet ball colours explained sets out the two colour sets.

Delivery to Kyneton

Each mallet is made after the order is placed, and reaching Kyneton usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from order. That is an estimate, not a guarantee.

Questions Kyneton players ask

Do I need my own mallet for come and try? No. Club gear is fine to start; your own makes sense once you play weekly.

Will a frosty morning hurt an aluminium head? No. Cold and damp do not trouble it; wipe it dry and store it indoors.

What if the mallet does not suit me? Add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for A$99 and try it in club play first.
