Croquet mallets and balls in Katanning
The short answer: Katanning croquet players can order an Invictus mallet cut to their own handle length and shipped to the Great Southern, and the club can build up championship approved balls a set at a time. For a first serious mallet, the Invictus Rise is our usual starting point.
Croquet in Katanning
Croquet in Katanning goes back more than a century. The Katanning Croquet and Bowling Club was officially opened on 11 December 1920, and according to the town's local history records the bowlers later split away, moving to their own green in 1963.
In 2021 the Great Southern Herald described a century-old club enjoying its first competitive season after affiliating, with strong results at State competitions. The paper later covered the opening of a new players' pavilion and storage shed, dedicated to a long-serving member, which followed a refurbishment inside; the club's president noted it was then in its 102nd year. Play is on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1pm, and newcomers are invited to try.
What Katanning's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Katanning is wheatbelt country, with hot, dry summers and cooler, wetter winters. Through the summer months a lawn bakes hard and quick, and a heavy hand sends the ball well past its target. In winter the surface softens and the same stroke falls short. Fine control of pace, not raw power, copes best with that swing.
Which Invictus mallet suits Katanning players
Invictus Rise, A$990. More players choose the Rise than any other Invictus mallet. Around 3 lb of aluminium in the head and a slightly larger sweet spot make it a little easier to control, which helps on fast, firm summer lawns. We generally suggest the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher, combines a 3D printed aluminium head, brass weights and composite faces. It weighs about 2 lb 12 oz: lighter, and very precise in experienced hands.
We build only after an order arrives, sizing the handle to suit you and fitting an 11 or 12 inch head. The standard finish is Graphite Black; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple add A$130.90. The weight cannot be chosen. Our fitting guide walks through measuring, and you can compare both mallets here.
Balls for Katanning clubs
The Invictus X ball holds World Croquet Federation championship approval, weighs 450 g and is made entirely in Australia, at A$990 a set. Plan on one set of first colours and one of second for each lawn as a guide; how many sets a club needs covers the rest.
Delivery to Katanning
Being made to order, a mallet usually reaches Katanning 4 to 8 weeks after you buy. That is an estimate, not a promise.
Questions Katanning players ask
