Croquet mallets and balls on the Jersey Shore
The short answer: croquet players in Sea Girt, Spring Lake and along the Jersey Shore can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls on our website, shipped to New Jersey. For six-wicket on the Shore's championship courts, we would point most players to the Invictus Rise, our most popular model.
Croquet on the Jersey Shore
American club croquet has deep roots here. The Green Gables Croquet Club began in 1957, when its founder invited friends to play on the lawn of her oceanfront Spring Lake home, also called Green Gables. It is described as the first croquet club on the East Coast and the oldest continuously running club in the country, and in 1977 it was among the founding clubs of the United States Croquet Association. After the founder died the house was sold and the old courts disappeared, so in 1999 the club built three championship courts in neighboring Sea Girt, on state land leased from the New Jersey National Guard Training Center. With around 70 members, it holds an invitational every July. On National Croquet Day in early June the club has opened its courts to newcomers; because the courts are on a military base, visitors register by email a week ahead, and white clothing is expected.
What Shore lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The Atlantic shapes play. Ocean breezes temper summer heat, humidity runs high and sea mist can leave the grass damp early in the day; by afternoon, a dry spell can make a well-kept championship court play quick. Winters are cold and raw, so the season runs from late spring into early fall.
Which Invictus mallet suits Jersey Shore players
Invictus Rise, US$695. An aluminum head of some 3 lb paired with a slightly enlarged sweet spot, making it a little easier to control on a damp morning court. We suggest the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, US$1,295. Our flagship, created with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminum head holds brass weights and composite faces, and the complete mallet weighs about 2 lb 12 oz: lighter and very precise for invitational play.
We build each mallet to order to your handle length and give you an 11 or 12 inch head. Standard finish is Graphite Black; Deep Purple, NRA Blue, Snow White or Rose Gold is US$119 more. The fitting guide and compare mallets help you decide.
Balls for Shore clubs
Invictus X balls carry World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; US$635 a set. Our guide for a club court is one set of first colors and one of second colors. Read choosing balls for a club.
Delivery to the Jersey Shore
Mallets are made one at a time and shipped to New Jersey, usually 4 to 8 weeks from order, an estimate rather than a promise. We confirm the delivered price of ball sets before you pay.
