Croquet mallets and balls in Hunstanton
The short answer: Hunstanton players, and visitors to the north-west Norfolk coast, can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it delivered to the town. The club lends mallets to beginners at first; when you are ready for your own, the Invictus Rise is the one we would suggest.
Croquet in Hunstanton
Hunstanton Croquet Club was founded in 1911 and plays on five lawns at the southern end of the Recreation Ground on King's Lynn Road, with car parking and a well-equipped clubhouse. Both Association and Golf Croquet are played, socially and competitively, from complete beginners to county standard. Club afternoons run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1.30 to 4pm between April and October, with Friday afternoons too. In 2026 the calendar included the Robert Prichard AC weekend in May, a Golf Croquet Open Series event, an Over-Fifties' weekend in June, GC series events from A-level to D-level and, over the August bank holiday, the 127th Annual (AC) Tournament. The club lends mallets to newcomers on 'Come and Try' days and through their first season.
What Hunstanton's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Hunstanton faces west across the Wash, and north Norfolk is one of the drier corners of England, so by late summer lawns here can run firm and quick for the annual tournament. Sea winds off the Wash are a fact of life, and April and October afternoons bring cooler, slower grass. A mallet with some weight helps in a breeze and on soft lawns; precision counts in August.
Which Invictus mallet suits Hunstanton players
Start with the Invictus Rise, priced at £525, which outsells every other mallet we make. Nearly 3 lb of aluminium in the head keeps it steady when the wind comes off the Wash and helps the ball through cool spring grass; a sweet spot a shade larger than most means slightly easier control. With it we advise an 11 inch head.
For the 127th Annual and other AC events, the RF Pro, priced at £975, is the alternative: our flagship, shaped in partnership with World Champion Robert Fletcher, with brass weighting and composite faces in a 3D printed aluminium head. It comes to near 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise.
Handles are cut to your measurements, and heads come in 11 or 12 inch lengths; nothing is built until you order. Graphite Black costs nothing extra, while Rose Gold, NRA Blue, Snow White and Deep Purple are £89. See our fitting advice and the two-mallet comparison.
Balls for Hunstanton clubs
The Invictus X ball holds World Croquet Federation approval for championship play; each is 450 g, the balls are made entirely in Australia, and sets sell at £479. A five-lawn ground like the Recreation Ground would, by the usual rule, carry ten sets. Our ball-set guide shows the working.
Delivery to Hunstanton
Expect a mallet to reach north-west Norfolk around four to eight weeks after you order, since each is made individually; please read that as an estimate. Ball sets carry a delivered price that we agree with you ahead of payment.
Questions Hunstanton players ask
I have been using a loan mallet. When should I buy? Going into a second season is a good moment; a mallet sized to you makes the stroke easier to repeat.
Is there a way to play with it before I commit? Yes. For £75, our optional satisfaction guarantee covers 30 days of club afternoons.
Does the wind favour a heavier head? Plenty of players think so, which points to the Rise, though AC tournament regulars often still choose the RF Pro.
