Croquet mallets and balls in Hull and Beverley

The short answer: players in Hull, Beverley and across the East Riding can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online, with delivery to the door. On converted bowling greens that play soft through an East Yorkshire spring, we would put the Invictus Rise forward first.

Croquet in Hull and Beverley

Beverley and East Riding Croquet Club spent more than 30 years at Rowley, near Little Weighton, on lawns it describes as tucked away in a leafy dell. Upkeep there was costly for a small club, so it moved to Springhead Park on Willerby Road, Hull, where two former bowling greens and a purpose-built pavilion have been turned over to croquet. The two full lawns can be split into four short lawns, or one full and two short. Club days are Monday and Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, and play runs April to October. Coaches run a six-week induction course and a four-week improvement course, two teams play in the Yorkshire League, and an August open day welcomes complete beginners, with all equipment provided. Further north in the Riding, Driffield Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club also plays.

What Hull's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

The East Riding is low, flat and open to the North Sea, so it is breezy and cool in spring even when it is fairly dry. Former bowling greens are level but soft after rain. Weight in the head keeps the ball moving on a damp April afternoon; a forgiving face helps when the wind off the Humber unsettles your stance.

Which Invictus mallet suits Hull and Beverley players

Invictus Rise, £525. No Invictus mallet is chosen more often. It carries roughly 3 lb in an aluminium head, and because the sweet spot is slightly larger it is a little easier to control. Pick the 11 inch head; that is our standing advice.

RF Pro, £975. The flagship, which we developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its head is 3D printed aluminium, weighted with brass and faced in composite, at around 2 lb 12 oz: lighter and very precise.

Your order sets the build: handle length to suit you, and a head of either 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black is standard; Snow White, Deep Purple, NRA Blue or Rose Gold costs £89 more. Weight is fixed. See the fitting guide and compare mallets.

Balls for Hull and Beverley clubs

A £479 set of Invictus X brings 450 g balls, made entirely in Australia, that the World Croquet Federation approves for championship play. For two full lawns the guide is two first-colour and two second-colour sets. Read ball colours explained.

Delivery to Hull and Beverley

We build each mallet after the order, then send it to the UK; East Riding players should allow, as an estimate, 4 to 8 weeks from ordering. Ball sets carry a delivered price you agree before paying.

Questions East Riding players ask

Six weeks of induction done. Time for my own mallet? Yes, if you will keep playing: a Rise at your handle length gives your new stroke a mallet that fits.

Can I play club days with it first? You can, by adding our £75 satisfaction guarantee, which is optional and lasts 30 days.

Does a wet lawn damage the head? No; aluminium is not troubled by rain. Wipe it down afterwards; see product care.
