Croquet mallets and balls in Highlands and Cashiers
The short answer: croquet players on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau, from Sapphire to Lake Toxaway, can order an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it shipped to their mountain address. Most club players here would do well to begin with the Invictus Rise, our most popular model.
Croquet on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau
Croquet runs deep on the plateau. The real estate firm that sponsored the 2022 national golf croquet championship counted 13 clubs offering the game on the plateau, and that championship showed why. The USCA Golf Croquet Nationals ran from May 15 to 22, 2022, stretched to seven days so doubles could play full blocks, with players rotating daily between High Hampton, the Chattooga Club, the Country Club of Sapphire Valley and Highlands Falls Country Club, where the singles final was held. The plateau had hosted the same championship before: the 15th edition, in September 2013, was based at Lake Toxaway Country Club, with Burlingame and Sapphire Valley used for block play. Burlingame Country Club in Sapphire, at roughly 3,000 feet, keeps regulation courts as part of its lawn sports program.
What mountain lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Altitude sets the rhythm. Summers on the plateau are noticeably cooler than in the Carolina lowlands and winters bring frost and snow that end outdoor play. Rain is frequent, so lawns can be soft after a wet week, while clear, breezy days firm them up.
Which Invictus mallet suits plateau players
Invictus Rise, US$695. With an aluminum head of about 3 lb and a sweet spot slightly larger than standard, the Rise is a little easier to control when a mountain lawn is damp and slow. We generally recommend the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, US$1,295. Developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher, the flagship holds brass weights and composite faces inside a 3D printed aluminum head. It weighs about 2 lb 12 oz, and its lighter, very precise feel suits players chasing national titles.
Both mallets are made to order to your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head as you prefer. Graphite Black is standard; for US$119 choose Snow White, Rose Gold, NRA Blue or Deep Purple. Our fitting guide and mallet comparison will help.
Balls for plateau clubs
Invictus X has World Croquet Federation championship approval, weighs 450 g and is made entirely in Australia; a set is US$635. Golf croquet doubles uses first and second colors, so we suggest one set of each per lawn. See ball colors explained.
Delivery to Highlands and Cashiers
We build each mallet to order, so delivery to the plateau usually takes 4 to 8 weeks from your order; that is an estimate. For ball sets we confirm the delivered price before you pay.
Questions plateau players ask
Can you ship to my summer address? Yes; give us the mountain address and order in spring so it is there when you arrive.
What if it is not right for me? Take the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (US$99) and decide after a month of games.
Does cold or damp hurt it? No. Aluminum is unaffected; dry the faces after play. See product care.
