Croquet mallets and balls in High Wycombe
The short answer: High Wycombe players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered across the Chilterns. Because the club's lawns are measured and cut to run faster in summer than in winter, many members will weigh the heavier Invictus Rise against the lighter RF Pro; most start with the Rise.
Croquet in High Wycombe
High Wycombe Croquet Club was founded in 1982, celebrated its fortieth anniversary in June 2022 and since 2014 has played at Hazlemere Recreation Ground on the Amersham Road, the A404 between High Wycombe and Amersham. It has about 100 members, two laser-levelled lawns and plans to grow to five, with a small clubhouse. Accredited coaches run short free sessions, and the club helped to form the Chiltern Croquet Academy, which in 2026 ran courses at Hazlemere for referees, club coaches and tournament managers. Roll-ups for Association and Golf Croquet run through the April to September season, internal tournaments carry on in winter when the weather allows, and members play in regional and county events, some at international level. Regular welcome sessions let newcomers try the game.
What High Wycombe's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The club measures its lawn speed. Croquet England's directory records Plummer speeds of about 9 in winter, with grass cut at 5.5 mm, and about 12 in summer at 3.5 mm. In plain terms, the winter lawn is noticeably slower and the summer lawn quick. That is exactly the range a mallet must cover over a Chilterns season.
Which Invictus mallet suits High Wycombe players
Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular mallet. Its roughly 3 lb aluminium head helps on a Plummer 9 winter lawn, and the sweet spot is a touch bigger than average, so it is a little easier to control. We would normally pair it with an 11 inch head.
RF Pro, £975. Our flagship, developed together with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Built around a 3D printed aluminium head carrying brass weights and composite faces, it weighs close to 2 lb 12 oz; lighter and very precise, it shines on a fast Plummer 12 summer surface.
Both come made to order to your handle length, head 11 or 12 inches long. Standard finish: Graphite Black. Optional colours: Snow White, Rose Gold, Deep Purple and NRA Blue, each £89. Read the fitting guide and see the two compared.
Balls for High Wycombe clubs
Invictus X balls are approved by the World Croquet Federation for championship use, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; £479 per set. A club planning five lawns would eventually want ten sets, one of first and one of second colours for each lawn. See how many ball sets a club needs.
Delivery to High Wycombe
Every mallet is made once you have ordered and then sent to the UK; reaching Buckinghamshire usually takes 4 to 8 weeks, as an estimate. We confirm a delivered price for ball sets before taking payment.
Questions High Wycombe players ask
Does lawn speed really change the choice? It helps decide it. Players who mostly play fast summer lawns often prefer the RF Pro; those who play all year usually keep the Rise.
Can I try it at the club first? Yes, with the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for £75.
How should I look after it? Dry the head after damp winter play; our product care page explains the rest.
