Croquet mallets and balls in Goulburn
The short answer: Goulburn players can buy an Invictus mallet or a set of Invictus X balls online and have it made to order and delivered to the Southern Tablelands. If you are ready to stop using club equipment, the Invictus Rise is our usual first recommendation.
Croquet in Goulburn
The Goulburn Croquet Club is based at the Goulburn Railway Bowling Club in Sloan Street and plays on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Ricochet is its regular game, and in 2023 the club brought in golf croquet as well; members report that both have caught on. The club opens its doors to newcomers, too: a come-and-try evening in February 2023 started play at 7pm under twilight, with every mallet and ball supplied and entry by gold coin donation. It also keeps up a friendly exchange with the Queanbeyan Croquet Club: Goulburn members went over for a day of games, and a return visit for golf croquet and lunch at the bowling club was set for October 2023.
What Goulburn's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Australia's first inland city sits high on the Southern Tablelands, and it is known for cold. Winter brings hard frosts and biting winds, and a morning court can be heavy and damp right through a session. In summer the lawns dry out and quicken. With play mostly in the mornings, a mallet that moves the ball off a cool, slow lawn earns its place.
Which Invictus mallet suits Goulburn players
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet, with an aluminium head of about 3 lb. That weight does much of the work on a heavy morning lawn, and the somewhat larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. We suggest the 11 inch head for most players.
RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, designed alongside World Champion Robert Fletcher. Brass weights and composite faces are set into a 3D printed aluminium head of about 2 lb 12 oz, giving a lighter mallet that is very precise.
Each one is made to order for its player. Tell us your handle length and choose between 11 and 12 inch heads; Graphite Black is standard, or pay A$130.90 more for Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple. Our fitting guide shows you how to measure, and compare mallets sets out the differences.
Balls for Goulburn clubs
Invictus X balls carry World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and sell for A$990 a set. Plan on a set of first colours and a set of second for each lawn in use. See our guide to ball colours.

Questions Goulburn players ask
I mostly play ricochet. Does that change the choice? Not much; pick by feel. The Rise is a little easier to control, the RF Pro lighter and more precise.
Can I give it a proper go first? Yes, with the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for A$99: play your usual mornings, then decide.
Will a frosty start harm the head? No; it is aluminium. Dry it after play and read product care.
