Croquet mallets and balls in Gothenburg
The short answer: players in Gothenburg and West Sweden can order an Invictus mallet, made to their handle length, or Invictus X championship balls, and we deliver them from Australia. If you are moving from garden croquet to golf or association croquet, the Invictus Rise is the easier first step.
Croquet in Gothenburg
The Swedish Croquet Federation recognises three games: svensk krocket, the garden game and the most widely played; golf croquet, the fastest-growing; and association croquet, the most demanding.
Gothenburg has two federation clubs. Tant Emmas Krocketklubb was started in 1997 by a group of friends with links to Chalmers, beginning with association croquet; one of its players later won European gold in golf croquet in 2010. Poseidon Croquet Club, founded in 2019, plays golf croquet and Swedish croquet. Within reach of the city, Borås Krocketsällskap plays at Kransmossens IP in Trandared with equipment for four lawns and offers taster sessions with loan mallets and coaching, and there are further clubs in Skara, Falkenberg and Halmstad.
What Gothenburg's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
West Sweden has a maritime climate: mild for Scandinavia, often wet and windy, with long light evenings in summer and a short outdoor season. Lawns can be soft after rain, and a heavier head helps the ball through softer grass. A metal head also suits a damp climate, as it will not swell like wood.
Which Invictus mallet suits Gothenburg players
- Invictus Rise (US$695) is our most popular mallet. Its aluminium head comes to roughly three pounds, the sweet spot is slightly enlarged, which makes it a little easier to control. An 11 inch head is our usual advice.
- RF Pro (US$1,295) is the flagship, shaped with the help of World Champion Robert Fletcher. Inside a 3D printed aluminium shell sit brass weights, with composite on both faces; total head weight is 2 lb 12 oz, near enough. Lighter, and very precise.
Every Invictus is built for one player. Send your handle length and say whether you want the head at 11 inches or 12. Graphite Black costs nothing extra; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple add US$119. Weight is not an option you can change. Measuring help is in our fitting guide, and compare mallets puts the two models together.
Balls for Gothenburg clubs
Invictus X, our ball, holds World Croquet Federation approval for championship use. Each one weighs 450 grams, and every ball is produced entirely in Australia; four of them come to US$635. Clubs usually reckon on two sets for every lawn, one in the first colours and one in the second, and our ball colours page explains which is which.
Delivery to Gothenburg
Work on your mallet starts once the order arrives, and it travels from Australia. Plan on somewhere between four and eight weeks after ordering, which is our estimate rather than a promise. Ball sets get a delivered price to your Swedish address, and you only pay once you have seen it.
Questions Gothenburg players ask
I play Swedish garden croquet. Is a tournament mallet worth it? If you are taking up golf or association croquet, it is built for exactly that, made to your handle length. For garden play only, it is more than you need.
When should I order for the summer? In winter or early spring, so the estimated build time leaves room before the season starts.
Can I change my mind? Add our satisfaction guarantee, which lasts 30 days and costs US$99, and you can use the mallet in real games before you commit.
