Croquet mallets and balls in Echuca
The short answer: croquet players in Echuca and Moama can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered on either side of the Murray. For golf croquet on hot, quick summer lawns the lighter RF Pro is worth considering, and the Invictus Rise is the dependable choice for year-round play.
Croquet in Echuca
The twin towns support two active clubs. Echuca Moama Croquet Club formed in 2016 when a group of players broke away from Rich River Croquet Club; it started with nine members and has grown past 20. It plays golf croquet on Monday and Friday mornings on the grass of the Echuca Tennis Club at the Victoria Park Sports Complex, beside the football oval. New players get four free lessons, handicaps keep games even, and members compete at regional events in Kyabram, Boort and at Rich River. Rich River Croquet Club, the older of the two, plays golf croquet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and association croquet on Wednesdays and Saturdays, all from 9am.
What Echuca's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Echuca's old paddle-steamer port sits on the Murray in northern Victoria, where summers are hot and dry and winters are cool. In January the grass is firm and the ball runs freely, so a short, soft stroke is usually enough and precision counts for more than power. In the cooler months the lawns soften, and a heavier head helps keep the ball moving.
Which Invictus mallet suits Echuca players
RF Pro, A$1,980. The flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher. At about 2 lb 12 oz, with a 3D printed aluminium head holding brass weights and composite faces, it is lighter and very precise: well matched to fast, dry summer lawns.
Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. Around 3 lb of aluminium in the head, with a slightly larger sweet spot, makes it a little easier to control, and the weight helps on slower winter grass. We usually recommend the 11 inch head.
Every mallet is made to order for its owner's handle length, with a choice of 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is standard; Snow White, Rose Gold, Deep Purple or NRA Blue add A$130.90. See mallet fitting and compare mallets.
Balls for Echuca clubs
Invictus X balls are World Croquet Federation championship approved, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; they cost A$990 a set. The rule of thumb is a first-colour set and a second-colour set for each lawn, and our guide to choosing balls for a club covers the rest.
