Croquet mallets and balls in Eastbourne

The short answer: Eastbourne players can order an Invictus mallet made to their own handle length, and clubs can buy Invictus X championship balls by the set, delivered to East Sussex. For a member moving between club afternoons and graded golf croquet events at the Saffrons, we would start with the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in Eastbourne

Compton Croquet Club calls itself the home of croquet in Eastbourne since 1898. It plays on five first-class lawns at the Saffrons Sports Ground on Compton Place Road, beside the town hall, and belongs to the Croquet South East federation. Association and golf croquet are both played at every level, and newcomers are offered three free weekly coaching sessions, usually on Tuesday afternoons, with no obligation to join.

The World Croquet Federation records Eastbourne as the 2010 venue for two tiers of its association croquet team championship, and Croquet England's 2026 calendar put the AC Inter-County Championship at Compton from 23 to 26 May, with graded golf croquet days through the summer. The season runs April to October.

What Eastbourne's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Eastbourne is one of the sunnier towns on the English coast, sheltered by the South Downs, but the Channel wind is rarely far away. In a dry summer, well-kept lawns run quick and true, and touch around the hoop matters more than power. Spring and autumn turf is heavier. A mallet that holds its line in a crosswind earns its place here.

Which Invictus mallet suits Eastbourne players

Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular mallet: an aluminium head close to 3 lb, whose sweet spot is a touch larger, so it forgives a little more. Most players pair it with the 11 inch head.

RF Pro, £975. Our flagship, shaped with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Its aluminium head is 3D printed and carries brass weights behind composite faces; at roughly 2 lb 12 oz, it is lighter and very precise, a natural fit for fast summer lawns.

Each is made to order to your handle length, with a head of 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black is standard; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple add £89. Weight cannot be chosen. See our mallet fitting guide and side-by-side comparison.

Balls for Eastbourne clubs

Invictus X balls have World Croquet Federation championship approval, weigh 450 g each, are made entirely in Australia and cost £479 a set. Plan on one set of first colours and one of second colours per lawn, so a five-lawn venue would think in terms of ten sets. More in how many ball sets a club needs.

Delivery to Eastbourne

Every mallet is built after you order. Expect it in Eastbourne typically between 4 and 8 weeks later; that is our estimate, not a promise.

Questions Eastbourne players ask

Will one mallet do for both AC and GC? Yes. Both models play either code, and Compton offers both.

Rise or RF Pro for graded golf croquet? Either. The Rise is kinder to an off-centre hit; the RF Pro rewards a grooved, consistent swing.

What if it does not suit me? Add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee, £75, and take a month of play to decide.
