Croquet mallets and balls in Doncaster
The short answer: Doncaster players, including members at Brodsworth Hall, can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online with delivery anywhere in South Yorkshire. For a club where most members play golf croquet on lawns in public gardens, the Invictus Rise is the mallet we would suggest first.
Croquet in Doncaster
Brodsworth Hall Croquet Club was founded in 1995 and plays in the gardens of Brodsworth Hall, north-west of Doncaster, a house and garden owned by English Heritage and regularly open to the public. Croquet England's directory lists two lawns, and the club belongs to the Yorkshire Federation. Its season runs from the beginning of April to the end of October. Most members play golf croquet, from complete beginners to experienced players, and the club offers free coaching for members and free taster mornings for anyone trying the game for the first time. Through the season there are several club competitions, a team in the Yorkshire League and friendly matches with other clubs, and in 2026 Brodsworth won the English Heritage Cup.
What Doncaster's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Doncaster sits in the lowlands east of the Pennines, in one of the drier parts of Yorkshire, so its lawns can firm up and quicken through a warm summer. April openings and October finishes are another matter: dew lingers, the grass is long and soft, and a ball struck without conviction stops short. A golf croquet player wants enough head weight for those heavy days and a forgiving face for the quicker ones in July.
Which Invictus mallet suits Doncaster players
Invictus Rise, £525. The Invictus most players choose. It has an aluminium head around 3 lb and a sweet spot that is a fraction larger, making it slightly easier to control. Our recommendation is usually the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, £975. Our flagship mallet, developed in partnership with World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium head is weighted with brass and faced with composite, for roughly 2 lb 12 oz: lighter, and very precise.
Every mallet is made to order for one player, at that player's handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black costs nothing extra; Rose Gold, Snow White, NRA Blue or Deep Purple is £89. Weight is fixed by design. See the fitting guide and compare mallets.
Balls for Doncaster clubs
Invictus X has championship approval from the World Croquet Federation, weighs 450 g and is made entirely in Australia; one set costs £479. With two lawns, the guide is two sets in first colours and two in second. Read choosing balls for a club.

Questions Doncaster players ask
I came to a free taster morning. Which mallet should I buy? The Rise; its forgiveness helps a new golf croquet stroke settle.
Can I play a Yorkshire League match with it first? Yes, if you add the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee (£75).
Will October dew harm the head? No. Dry the faces after play; see product care.
