Croquet mallets and balls in Donabate and north County Dublin

The short answer: players in Donabate and north County Dublin can have an Invictus mallet made to their handle length and delivered to Ireland. Beginners at Newbridge House should weigh up the Invictus Rise first; a damp coastal lawn favours its extra head weight.

Croquet in Donabate

Few lawns in Ireland carry this much history. Cyril Corbally, one of the "Irish Terrors" who dominated the Edwardian game, married into the Cobbe family and lived at Newbridge House, where the estate says he laid out a lawn on the eastern side of the house in the 1920s. Croquet Ireland calls him the country's greatest player of a century ago.

Fingal County Council refurbished the lawn to international standard in 2016-17, and the Croquet Association of Ireland reopened it with an open draw, exhibition games and an inter-club golf croquet doubles. Newbridge House Croquet Club now organises regular games with the association, and invites total novices to try a game in the parkland. Its championship, the Cyril Corbally Cup, falls in late July and was played again in 2026. Visitors can also hear the story on a guided tour of the house.

What Donabate's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Donabate lies on a peninsula on the north Dublin coast, so the air is mild, breezy and often damp. Grass here tends to grow for much of the year, and a soft lawn asks more of your long shots than a hard summer surface does. Aluminium heads shrug off a wet evening; our care notes cover the rest. A historic lawn in public parkland also repays gentle treatment, so swing level and keep your mallet out of the turf.

Which Invictus mallet suits Donabate players

Invictus Rise, US$695. Our most popular mallet: an aluminium head near 3 lb, whose slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. It is usually recommended in 11 inches.

RF Pro, US$1,295. Worth a look if you are entering the Corbally Cup in earnest. Developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher, the flagship combines 3D printed aluminium, brass weights and composite faces at about 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise.

We make each to order at your handle length, in an 11 or 12 inch head. Graphite Black costs nothing extra; Rose Gold, NRA Blue, Snow White or Deep Purple are US$119. Weight is fixed. See mallet fitting and compare mallets before you decide.

Balls for Donabate clubs

Invictus X balls are 450 g, World Croquet Federation championship approved, made entirely in Australia and US$635 a set. One lawn usually means one first-colour and one second-colour set; croquet ball colours explained shows the difference.

Delivery to Donabate

Allow usually 4 to 8 weeks from order, as an estimate.

Questions Donabate players ask
