Croquet mallets and balls in Devonport
The short answer: Devonport players, and those at Latrobe and along the North-West Coast, can buy Invictus mallets and Invictus X balls through our website and have them delivered to their door. With soft, breezy coastal conditions for much of the year, our first recommendation is the Rise, with its 3 lb head.
Croquet in Devonport
Devonport's croquet lives at the Devonport Country Club in Woodrising Avenue, Spreyton, a multi-sport complex that opened in December 2019 after a merger that brought in the old Devonport Bowls and Croquet Club. Its croquet section has two full-size lawns and plays association, ricochet and golf croquet, with a competitive season from September to the end of May and social play all year. Qualified coaches run introductory programmes. A short drive away, Latrobe Croquet Club, formed in April 2016, has four lawns in George Street, plays golf and association croquet five days a week and offers free introductory sessions. Further west, Burnie gained the Emu Bay Croquet Club in 2025, so the coast now has three clubs.
What Devonport's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
The North-West Coast faces Bass Strait. Its climate is mild and maritime: summers are pleasant rather than hot, winters are cool and wet, and the wind off the water is a frequent companion. Lawns here stay soft and moderately slow for long stretches, and a gusty afternoon punishes a loose swing, so steady head weight and a smooth stroke matter.
Which Invictus mallet suits Devonport players
Invictus Rise, A$990. The most popular in our range. Roughly 3 lb of aluminium in the head keeps the ball moving on damp coastal grass, and because the sweet spot is slightly larger, control comes a little more easily. The 11 inch head is our usual pairing.
RF Pro, A$1,980. The top of the range, which World Champion Robert Fletcher helped develop. The aluminium head is 3D printed, brass-weighted and composite-faced, and the finished mallet is close to 2 lb 12 oz: the lighter, very precise option for seasoned association and ricochet players.
Both mallets are made to order for your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. They come in Graphite Black, or in NRA Blue, Deep Purple, Rose Gold or Snow White for A$130.90 extra. The mallet comparison and our fitting notes will help.
Balls for Devonport clubs
Every Invictus X ball is made entirely in Australia, weighs 450 g and is approved by the World Croquet Federation for championship play. A set is A$990. As a guide, budget first colours and second colours for every lawn: four sets in all for a two-lawn club. Our club ball-set guide runs through the sums.
Delivery to Devonport

Questions Devonport players ask
Does the wind make a heavier mallet better? Weight helps a little, but a smooth, unhurried swing matters more.
Can I use it in club games before committing? For a month, yes: add our optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for A$99.
Will salt air or rain damage it? No. Aluminium handles damp; wipe it down after play and follow product care.
