Croquet mallets and balls in Cornwall

The short answer: croquet players anywhere in Cornwall, from Truro and St Austell to St Agnes and Fowey, can buy from us online and have a mallet or a ball set delivered within the county. Because Cornish croquet carries on through the winter, the 3 lb Invictus Rise is our usual first recommendation.

Croquet in Cornwall

Cornwall Croquet Club grew out of a first general meeting held in Truro on 9 August 1995, attended by seven people. After years of searching for a ground, it played its first season at Porthpean, near St Austell, in 2004. It has three courts and a clubhouse on its own land, became a charitable incorporated organisation in 2024 and, with help from Croquet England and Sport England, bought the freehold of its premises in 2025. Members come from all over the county to play Association, Golf, Short and One Ball Croquet, with internal competitions, teams in regional leagues and plenty of friendly games. Qualified coaches introduce beginners, and the club ran come-and-have-a-go sessions on Tuesdays in August. Croquet is also played at St Agnes, which has three lawns in Goonown Lane, at Fowey's Squires Field and at Bude.

What Cornwall's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Cornwall's maritime climate is among the mildest in England, and the club calls winter play a big advantage of the county, stopping only when the weather is truly bad and for intensive lawn work each March. Winter and spring turf is often damp and slow after Atlantic rain; summer lawns are firmer and quicker. A mallet here works almost twelve months a year.

Which Invictus mallet suits Cornish players

Invictus Rise, £525. The mallet more players choose than any other we make. Its aluminium head, near enough 3 lb, drives the ball across a wet winter court, and the sweet spot is slightly bigger than usual, so control comes a little more easily. Most people are best served by the 11 inch head.

RF Pro, £975. Top of our range, worked out with World Champion Robert Fletcher. The head is printed in 3D from aluminium, with brass weighting inside and composite faces at each end; overall weight is close to 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise.

Handles are cut to your length and heads come in 11 or 12 inch sizes, all made to order. Graphite Black is the standard colour; Snow White, NRA Blue, Deep Purple or Rose Gold add £89. Use the fitting guide and compare mallets to choose.

Balls for Cornish clubs

Our Invictus X ball is approved by the World Croquet Federation for championships. At 450 g, made entirely in Australia, it sells at £479 for a set. A three-court club like Porthpean would, as a rule of thumb, want six sets: first and second colours for every court. See how many sets a club needs.

Delivery to Cornwall

Mallets are built only once ordered and then shipped to the UK; allow typically four to eight weeks for one to reach a Cornish address, which is an estimate. With ball sets, you see and agree the delivered price before paying.

Questions Cornish players ask

Do you deliver to the far west of the county? Yes; any Cornish address is part of UK delivery.

Can I play with it before I commit? Yes: for £75 the optional satisfaction guarantee gives you 30 days of real games first.

Will a winter of damp play harm the head? No; aluminium will not swell. Wipe it dry when you finish, and our care page covers the rest.
