Croquet mallets and balls in Chichester
The short answer: Chichester players can buy Invictus mallets and Invictus X balls through our website, with delivery anywhere around the city and harbour. For a club where most members play Golf Croquet, the Invictus Rise is the mallet we would usually suggest, with the RF Pro for those who want the lightest, most exact feel.
Croquet in Chichester
The Chichester Croquet Club was formed in 1987 by a group of enthusiasts meeting at the Chequers pub, and its first games were played in Priory Park in the city centre. It later moved to the grounds of the Fishbourne Centre in Blackboy Lane and became the Chichester and Fishbourne Croquet Club. It is a small club with two lawns. Most members play Golf Croquet, an Association group welcomes newcomers to the longer game, and there are matches against other clubs and in national leagues. Free taster sessions and introductory courses are offered, and members can use club equipment. The season traditionally ends with a match for the Fishbourne Trophy, played to a mix of Golf and Association rules. Nearby, West Wittering Croquet Club plays on two lawns through the year, weather permitting.
What Chichester's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Between the South Downs and Chichester Harbour, the city enjoys a sunny coastal climate, and Fishbourne's season runs from April to October, or longer if the weather holds. Lawns are at their fastest in a dry July and at their slowest in a wet October. Golf Croquet rewards a mallet that forgives a slightly off-centre hit.
Which Invictus mallet suits Chichester players
Invictus Rise, £525. More players pick this than any other Invictus model. The head, in aluminium, weighs close to 3 lb, and because the sweet spot is a little larger the mallet is slightly easier to control when running hoops or clearing an opponent's ball. With it we normally advise the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, £975. Top of the range, and shaped with the help of World Champion Robert Fletcher. Brass weighting and composite striking faces are built into a head that is 3D printed from aluminium; the result is near 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise.
We make each mallet only once you order, sized to your handle length, with a head length of either 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black is free; the extra colours (Snow White, Deep Purple, NRA Blue and Rose Gold) are £89. The fitting guide and compare mallets page explain the choice.
Balls for Chichester clubs
Our Invictus X ball holds World Croquet Federation championship approval. It weighs 450 g, it is made entirely in Australia and it costs £479 for a set. Fishbourne's two lawns would, as a rule of thumb, take two first-colour and two second-colour sets in all. See how many sets a club needs.
Delivery to Chichester
Because mallets are built on demand and then sent to the UK, allow usually four to eight weeks before one reaches West Sussex; that is an estimate. Ball orders come with a delivered price that we confirm before any payment.
Questions Chichester players ask
I only play Golf Croquet. Do I need the RF Pro? No. Plenty of GC players choose the Rise for its forgiveness; the RF Pro suits those chasing fine control.
What if I am unsure after it arrives? Add our free satisfaction guarantee which gives you 30 days of club play before you decide.
How do I care for it? Dry the head after damp play and store it indoors; our product care page has more.
