Croquet mallets and balls in Chester
The short answer: Chester players can order a made-to-measure Invictus mallet or club sets of Invictus X balls online, delivered anywhere in the city or west Cheshire. On lawns wet enough to need a squelch test, we would hand most Chester players the forgiving Invictus Rise first.
Croquet in Chester
Chester Croquet Club, founded in 1977, plays on four full lawns at Westminster Park, Hough Green, a council green with a seasonal fee for players. It has over a hundred members, belongs to the North West Federation and plays both association and golf croquet, with sessions through the week from April to September and introductory sessions for both games each April. Its honours include the federation's Advanced League in 2013, 2014 and 2019, the Short Lawn League in 2021 and 2026, and the Snowdonia Cup three years running from 2023. Westminster Park hosts golf croquet series from D to A level each spring, and the club has staged its first international, England against Scotland in association croquet, with three Chester players in the winning England side.
What Chester's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Close to the Dee estuary and the Welsh hills, Chester gets plenty of Atlantic rain, and its lawns show it. In October 2026 three lawns stayed open only while they passed the club's squelch test, and all four close for re-seeding until 2027. Spring golf croquet series start in March, when grass is cold and slow. Head weight and a generous sweet spot make that early play easier.
Which Invictus mallet suits Chester players
Invictus Rise, £525. Our most popular. Count on roughly 3 lb of aluminium in the head and a sweet spot cut a little wider, so it is slightly easier to control. Our habit is to pair it with the 11 inch head.
RF Pro, £975. The flagship, a mallet World Champion Robert Fletcher helped us develop. Brass weights are set into a 3D printed aluminium head behind composite faces; the scales read about 2 lb 12 oz, lighter and very precise for A-level players.
We make yours after you order, to the handle length you give, in an 11 or a 12 inch head length. Graphite Black is standard; the £89 colours are NRA Blue, Rose Gold, Snow White and Deep Purple. Weights are fixed. Try the fitting guide and our comparison page.
Balls for Chester clubs
An Invictus X set is £479. The balls weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and hold World Croquet Federation approval for championship events. Four lawns would want, as a guide, four sets of first colours and four of second. Our page on how many ball sets a club needs walks through it.
Delivery to Chester
A mallet is made only once you order and then sent to the UK; for Chester, allow usually 4 to 8 weeks from order, which is our estimate. Ball sets come with a delivered price to accept before payment.
Questions Chester players ask
I play the GC series from March. Is the Rise too heavy? No; on cold spring grass the extra head weight is the point.
Can I see if it suits me first? Yes, by adding the free 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
Will a squelchy lawn harm the head? No. Just dry the faces; see product care.
