Croquet mallets and balls in Canterbury

The short answer: Canterbury players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered in east Kent. On the club's laser-levelled lawns at Polo Farm, the Invictus Rise is our usual starting point, with the RF Pro for those who want the lightest, most precise feel.

Croquet in Canterbury

Canterbury Croquet Club began in 1991 in a private garden at Chartham Hatch, west of the city, and moved to Polo Farm Sports Club on the Littlebourne Road in 1996. Polo Farm built three new, purpose-made croquet lawns that opened in 2017; they are laser-levelled, and the club has its own pavilion and equipment shed, while members also use the main Polo Farm bar and clubhouse alongside the hockey, cricket and tennis sections. Although Polo Farm owns the ground, the croquet club runs and maintains its own facilities. Membership is open from the age of ten, all members can use club equipment and get coaching from experienced players, and the club runs open days and taster sessions for newcomers. It belongs to Croquet South East and plays both Association and Golf Croquet.

What Canterbury's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Kent is drier than the west of England, and summer is the main croquet season here, although the club plays all year. Level, well-kept lawns reward a consistent stroke: the ball runs true, and in a dry spell it runs fast, so control matters. Winter rain softens the same lawns and asks a little more of the head.

Which Invictus mallet suits Canterbury players

Invictus Rise, £525. The model we would hand most club players. Its head is aluminium, weighs about 3 lb and has a slightly larger sweet spot, which makes it a little easier to control. We generally fit it with the 11 inch head.

RF Pro, £975. Our flagship, developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher, uses a 3D printed aluminium head fitted with brass weights and composite faces. At roughly 2 lb 12 oz it is the lighter of the two and very precise on a true, quick lawn.

We make every mallet to order: your handle length, and an 11 inch or 12 inch head. Graphite Black is included; Deep Purple, NRA Blue, Snow White or Rose Gold add £89. Our mallet fitting page and comparison explain the choice.

Balls for Canterbury clubs

Invictus X balls are World Croquet Federation championship approved, 450 g each and made entirely in Australia; £479 buys a set. With three lawns, a club would plan on a first-colour set and a second-colour set for each. Read how many ball sets a club needs.

Delivery to Canterbury

Each mallet is made after you order, then sent to the UK, and generally takes 4 to 8 weeks to arrive in Kent; that is an estimate, not a guarantee. We confirm the delivered price of ball sets before you pay.

Questions Canterbury players ask

I am a junior member. Is a full-size mallet right? Both models are made to your handle length, so a younger player gets a correctly sized mallet; the fitting guide shows how to measure.

Can I play with it at Polo Farm before deciding? Yes, with the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee for £75.

Which mallet for golf croquet on fast lawns? Many GC players like the RF Pro's precision; if you prefer forgiveness, take the Rise.
