Croquet mallets and balls in Bury

The short answer: players in Bury, Radcliffe and the north of Greater Manchester can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online, delivered to the door. On Pennine-edge lawns that host national golf croquet series events, our first suggestion is the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in Bury

Bury Croquet Club looks after the croquet lawns and bowling pavilion at Whitehead Park on Ainsworth Road in Elton, just over a mile from the town centre, and Croquet England's directory credits it with five lawns. Croquet was among the park's first uses: established in 1883 as Elton Recreation Ground and opened by Prince Albert Victor on 21 July 1888, it was later renamed after Sir Henry Whitehead, one of its benefactors. The club also plays at Coronation Park in Radcliffe. Newcomers are offered free taster sessions and need only flat-soled shoes, because all equipment is provided, and its 2026 open day on 25 April supported Bury Hospice. Whitehead Park's 2026 fixtures included golf croquet series tournaments at A, B and C level and an association short croquet day in July, and a round of the AC inter-club handicap championship for the Longman Trophies was listed for September. It belongs to the North West Federation.

What Bury's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Bury sits under the West Pennine Moors, where Atlantic weather drops a good deal of rain on its way east. Park lawns stay soft through much of spring and autumn, and summer showers can slow a fast court within a game. Weight in the head carries the ball across heavy grass without a forced swing.

Which Invictus mallet suits Bury players

Invictus Rise, £525. The Invictus model most in demand. Expect an aluminium head of roughly 3 lb whose slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. We pair it, as a rule, with the 11 inch head.

RF Pro, £975. Our flagship, created with input from World Champion Robert Fletcher. A 3D printed aluminium head, fitted with brass weights and composite faces, gives a total near 2 lb 12 oz, the lighter and very precise choice.

Everything is built to order. Send your handle length, choose an 11 or 12 inch head, and keep Graphite Black or spend £89 on Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold or Deep Purple. The weight comes fixed. Our fitting guide and compare page explain the choice.

Balls for Bury clubs

Invictus X sets are £479. The balls weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and have World Croquet Federation approval for championship play. Across five lawns, the guide is five first-colour sets and five second-colour sets. See how many ball sets a club needs.

Delivery to Bury

A mallet is made when you order and then sent to the UK; usually expect it 4 to 8 weeks from your order, as our estimate. Ball sets come with a delivered price for you to agree before paying.

Questions Bury players ask

I came to a free taster session. What should I buy first? A Rise at your handle length; the club supplies balls.

Can I try it in a series event first? Yes, through the optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee at £75.

Will a wet Pennine summer harm it? No. Wipe the faces after play; see product care.
