Croquet mallets and balls in Boort

The short answer: Boort players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered to the shores of Little Lake Boort. On the club's fast summer couch lawns the lighter RF Pro is a natural fit; for winter play and newcomers, the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in Boort

Boort Lakeside Croquet Club sits beside Little Lake Boort, about 100 km north-west of Bendigo, a short walk south of the bowling club off Godfrey Street. It has three A-size lawns of South African couch, well kept and lit for night play. Games are usually on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1pm, moving to 9am in midsummer, and on warm Friday evenings the lights come on for play from 7pm. The club plays most forms of croquet at various times, welcomes visitors and beginners at times to suit them, and offers coaching. It also hosts regional competition: players from Echuca and Moama travel to Boort for regional events. For visitors who want to stay, the town has a holiday park beside the lake, and caravans can stop at the showgrounds.

What Boort's lawns and weather mean for your mallet

Boort is in the dry wheat and sheep country of the northern plains, with hot summers and cool winters. Couch is a warm-season grass, so these lawns are at their fastest and firmest through the summer, when the ball rolls a long way and a gentle, controlled stroke matters most. In winter couch slows and goes partly dormant, and the ball needs more weight behind it.

Which Invictus mallet suits Boort players

RF Pro, A$1,980. Developed with World Champion Robert Fletcher, the RF Pro is the flagship of our range. The head is 3D printed aluminium, the weighting is brass, the faces are composite, and the mallet comes to about 2 lb 12 oz. It is lighter and very precise, made for a quick couch lawn on a summer evening.

Invictus Rise, A$990. Our most popular mallet. With close to 3 lb in an aluminium head, it moves the ball across slower winter couch, and a slightly larger sweet spot makes it a little easier to control. The 11 inch head is our usual recommendation.

We build yours once the order is in, handle trimmed to your length and head made at 11 or 12 inches. Graphite Black comes at no charge; a Rose Gold, Snow White, Deep Purple or NRA Blue finish adds A$130.90. See the comparison page and the fitting guide.

Balls for Boort clubs

Invictus X balls are World Croquet Federation championship approved, weigh 450 g and are made entirely in Australia; each set costs A$990. Three lawns would usually take three first-colour and three second-colour sets. Our page on how many ball sets a club needs explains the reasoning.
