Croquet mallets and balls in Birmingham, Alabama
The short answer: croquet players in Birmingham, Mountain Brook and across central Alabama can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online, and we ship to Alabama. If you are moving on from a park set to a proper golf croquet mallet, start with the Invictus Rise, our most popular model.
Croquet in Birmingham
Birmingham's club started as the Crestline Park Lawn Sports Society, about a dozen players meeting in the park with an inexpensive set and a loose grasp of the rules. Membership passed 20 quickly, and the Alabama director of the United States Croquet Association invited the group onto his regulation-size private court in Mountain Brook, a lawn built about 30 years earlier with some 3,500 truckloads of soil. Renamed the Mountain Brook Croquet Club, it now plays mostly golf croquet, has met on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Its first golf croquet event, in June 2022, drew visitors from Georgia and Tennessee, and the July 2025 Golf Croquet Open brought players from around the Southeast, with a US$1,000 prize for the championship winner. In October 2023 members traveled to Carrollton, Georgia, and played the reigning golf croquet world champion.
What Birmingham's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
Central Alabama summers are long, hot and humid, broken by thunderstorms that can soak a lawn in an afternoon; winters are short and mostly mild. Spring and fall give the most pleasant play, and a regulation court in dry weather runs fast.
Picking your Invictus in Birmingham
The Invictus Rise (US$695) is our most popular mallet: its head is aluminum, three pounds or thereabouts, and the sweet spot runs slightly larger than usual, which keeps it a little easier to control for golf croquet players still grooving a stroke. Pair it with an 11 inch head; that is our normal advice.
The RF Pro (US$1,295) is our flagship. World Champion Robert Fletcher worked with us on it, and its head, 3D printed in aluminum, houses brass weights behind composite faces. Total weight comes to roughly 2 lb 12 oz, so it swings lighter and plays very precisely; it is aimed at players entering prize events.
Whichever you pick, it is made for you, cut to your handle length, with a head of 11 inches or 12. Graphite Black costs nothing extra. Rose Gold, Deep Purple, Snow White and NRA Blue are a US$119 upgrade. See the fitting guide and compare mallets.
Balls for Alabama clubs
Each Invictus X ball tips the scales at 450 g. The World Croquet Federation has approved them for championship play, they are made entirely in Australia, and US$635 gets you a set. Golf croquet doubles calls for first and second colors, so plan one set of each for every lawn; our ball-set article explains.
Delivery to Birmingham
Allow usually 4 to 8 weeks between placing an order and a made-to-order mallet arriving in Alabama. Treat that window as our estimate. On ball sets we quote the delivered cost and you pay once you are happy with it.
