Croquet mallets and balls in Barnstaple
The short answer: Barnstaple and North Devon players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online and have them delivered across the area. The town's club plays Golf Croquet, where forgiving, repeatable contact matters most, so the Invictus Rise is the mallet we would recommend first.
Croquet in Barnstaple
Barnstaple Croquet Club plays on four lawns at Raleigh Meadow, on the edge of the town. It is a small, friendly club that plays Golf Croquet, and it keeps things simple: there is no need to book lawn time or bring a partner, because everyone is happy to play with everyone. Club days are Mondays and Thursdays from 10am, usually finishing around 2.30pm. The outdoor season runs from the beginning of April to the end of September; in 2026 it opened on 23 March with the traditional clean-up day before the first games. Over the 2025 to 2026 winter, members played indoors at a new venue in Goodleigh on Mondays from October to December. The club welcomed a batch of new members in 2026, added two new club competitions, and also hosts visiting groups and Women's Institute events.
What Barnstaple's lawns and weather mean for your mallet
North Devon takes the Atlantic weather first, and early-season lawns at Raleigh Meadow often need a spell of drier days before they firm up, as the club noted at the start of 2026. Summer brings quicker, truer grass. In Golf Croquet each turn is a single stroke, so a mallet that forgives a slightly off-centre hit on a soft April lawn, and stays accurate in August, earns its place.
Which Invictus mallet suits Barnstaple players
For a Golf Croquet club, our usual pick is the Invictus Rise (£525), more popular than any other mallet we make. The head is aluminium and weighs in the region of 3 lb, enough to send a ball across a damp April lawn, and a slightly wider sweet spot means a little more margin when you run a hoop. An 11 inch head is the normal pairing.
The RF Pro (£975) is our flagship, developed together with World Champion Robert Fletcher. Inside a 3D printed aluminium head sit brass weights, behind composite faces, for a total close to 2 lb 12 oz: lighter and very precise.
Every Invictus is made on request at your handle length, with an 11 or 12 inch head. It arrives in Graphite Black unless you pay £89 for Snow White, Deep Purple, NRA Blue or Rose Gold. Read our sizing guide and mallet comparison.
Balls for Barnstaple clubs
Invictus X balls hold World Croquet Federation approval for championship use. They weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and cost £479 a set. On Raleigh Meadow's four lawns, the rule of thumb is eight sets in all. Our explainer on first and second colours helps with the order.
Delivery to Barnstaple
We start making your mallet once you have ordered, and it normally reaches North Devon some four to eight weeks later, an estimate only. With balls, you know and accept the delivered price before you pay.
Questions Barnstaple players ask
We only play Golf Croquet. Is the RF Pro wasted on us? Not wasted, but most GC players find the Rise does everything they need.
Could I play a club day or two with it first? Yes: the optional satisfaction guarantee, £75, gives you 30 days before you decide.
Can I use it for indoor croquet in winter? Check with the indoor venue about its surface; after outdoor play, simply dry the head, and see product care.
