Croquet mallets and balls in Ballina and Byron Bay

The short answer: Ballina and Byron Bay players can order an Invictus mallet or Invictus X balls online, each mallet built to order. On these warm, wet subtropical lawns we suggest most players begin with the Invictus Rise.

Croquet in Ballina and Byron Bay

Ballina Croquet Inc was founded in 1936, the town's original club, and celebrated its ninetieth anniversary on 13 May 2026. It has played at Hampton Park for most of that time, on two grass lawns with a clubhouse, and offers association croquet, ricochet and golf croquet, which it took up in 1997. It has over seventy members. The Cherry Street Croquet Club formed in 2010 as part of Cherry Street Sports, on the corner of Bentinck and Moon Streets opposite St Andrews Village, with two purpose-built lawns, play five days a week and coaching for newcomers and school groups. Its members have done well in ricochet: the club's first national title came in the inaugural Australian Ricochet Open Doubles in 2023, and since 2021 it has contested a golf croquet challenge against Coutts Crossing. Byron Bay has its own club, and together with Alstonville, Casino and Lismore these make up Croquet NSW's Northern Rivers region.

What the Northern Rivers coast means for your mallet

This coast is subtropical: hot, humid summers, heavy rain and storms, mild winters without frost. After a downpour a lawn plays thick and slow; the drier winter months firm it up.

Which Invictus mallet suits Ballina and Byron players

Invictus Rise, A$990. It outsells our other mallet. There is about 3 lb of aluminium in the head to carry the ball through lush summer grass, and because the sweet spot is a touch larger, the Rise is a little easier to control. Choose the 11 inch head, as we generally recommend.

RF Pro, A$1,980. Our flagship, worked out with World Champion Robert Fletcher. The 3D printed aluminium head includes brass weights and composite faces and weighs about 2 lb 12 oz, for a lighter, very precise mallet.

We build both to your handle length, with 11 or 12 inch heads. Graphite Black is standard; Snow White, NRA Blue, Rose Gold and Deep Purple cost A$130.90 more. The fitting guide and mallet comparison set out the options.

Balls for Ballina and Byron clubs

Invictus X has World Croquet Federation championship approval. The balls weigh 450 g, are made entirely in Australia and cost A$990 a set. With two lawns, either Ballina club would need two first-colour sets and two second-colour sets as a guide; our guide to choosing club balls has more.

Delivery to Ballina and Byron Bay

Mallets are made after ordering and usually arrive on the Northern Rivers coast 4 to 8 weeks later. That is an estimate.

Questions Ballina and Byron players ask

I play mostly ricochet. Which mallet? Start with the Rise; move to the RF Pro if you want a lighter, more precise feel.

Can I use it at my club before deciding? Yes. The optional 30-day satisfaction guarantee costs A$99 and gives you a month of games.

Will flooding rain or humidity damage it? The head is aluminium, so humidity will not swell it. Dry it after play; see product care.
